Hello, it is that time of year again. Don't we all wish we can just put a pause or cancel Valentine's Day this year or organise a petition to remove this Day from the calendar forever? Well, the good news is that Valentine's Day ain't going nowhere, so chill the life out.

Valentine's Day is a fantastic day for some people and not so fantastic for others. [alright let's not make this sad] Valentine's Day evokes all sorts of feelings in us and in our societies for single people. It does not matter what cultural background you're from, or what race you identify yourself to be. Valentine's Day does get your attention, maybe not much or just a little bit.

But hang on

What is Valentine's Day all about?

Perhaps the confusion about this celebrated tradition comes from the fact that we have failed to discover the real purpose or the heart behind the tradition. Many of us live with lies and myths about Valentine's Day and what it is all about. Still, before we demonise Valentine's Day, perhaps it's time we educate ourselves about the heart behind this tradition.

Is Valentine's Day a myth? Well, we don't know and even if we knew, sincerely who cares?

Valentine's Day is not about couples and cupid etc.

Valentine's Day is not about sex.

It is not about gifts and expensive dinners.

Valentine's Day is not about dressing up in red [seriously, people still do that?, smh].

Valentine's Day is about Love!

I repeat Valentine's Day is about love!

Love love love

Not the only Day to show love, but one of the many days to show love.

It's a day we set apart to celebrate those who sacrifice their lives to be with us. A special day appointed to appreciate those who put up with who we are and those who risk their lives for us. Just like Bishop Valentine of Terni sacrificed his career and his life to bring the light of hope in people's lives and families.

Since Valentine's Day is about love,

What does love look like to you?

How does love feel like to you?

How do you express Love?

If you can answer those 3 questions, then go on and enjoy your Valentine's Day. You don't need a boyfriend, girlfriend, wife or husband to celebrate Valentine's Day. Share love with those you love.

Here are 2 tips to win Valentine's Day:

Buy flowers:

> Buy flowers for the women that you are close to. If you have a mother, this is a perfect time of the year to spoil her with her favourite flowers. Show her your sincere appreciation and show her that she is loved.

> Buy flowers to single-female-friends you are close to, maybe 2 or 3 female friends. This is to appreciate them and showing them that they are strong and beautiful. An appreciation of every little contribution they bring into your life.

Or you can be a little bit extra and buy flowers for strangers. Isn't it just beautiful to brighten up someone's Day and put a smile on their face? Because that's what Love is all about.

Dinner date:

>Take a single-female-friend out for a dinner date. This is definitely not a wasted time. Our lives find meaning when we care and do good for people we love. Spoil someone with generosity. Life is precious and let's make every moment count and every day worth living. Spoil someone with a dinner date and nothing further. I repeat, and nothing further.

Or take your mother out for dinner. Or if she does not want to go out, then buy her favourite chocolate or croissants and share them with her.

That is it!  Make your Valentine's Day eventful and one to remember. Don't let singleness get in the way. Live life and give love.

Addendum:

(Bonus tip) Write a letter to your future partner:

I have absolutely zero ideas where my future partner is, and I believe you'd give a similar answer. But one thing I believe is that they are out there somewhere, maybe I have never met them, or perhaps I have met them. But I hold on to the truth that they are out there and I have faith I will meet them.

So write a letter to them, even though they won't read it now, but someday they will. Tell them how special they are and tell them how blessed you are that youwill be their future partner.
