Seven reasons to get a tabby cat

5 things you didn't know about brindle cats

Tiger cats are the first domesticated cats. They are very popular even today, being extremely popular in all corners of the world. It was given the English name "tabby cat" because it was compared to a striped silk pattern produced in the Attabiy district of Baghdad. Here are some extremely interesting things about this cat breed:

All brindle cats have the letter "M" on their foreheads

The defining characteristic of any breed of brindle cat is the presence of the letter M on its forehead. There are several religious stories about how these cats acquired this distinctive sign, here are two of them:

  • In the Christian story, it is said that when Jesus was in the stable and could not sleep, a tabby cat sat down next to him and began to spin, and He fell asleep. The Virgin Mary, as a sign of gratitude, kissed the cat on the forehead and since then all the brindle cats have that "M" marked on the fur.
  • In the Islamic story, a tabby cat named Muezza saved the life of his master, Mohammed, by killing a snake that hid in his sleeve. Since then, all brindle cats have been marked with an "M" on their foreheads.

From a scientific point of view, the letter "M" is related to genetics. Just as jaguars, tigers, and leopards have a well-established pattern of spots and stripes, so do striped cats who have this distinctive mark on their foreheads.

Tiger cats are not a breed

The term "brindle" refers to the pattern on the fur of cats, so there is not a single breed of brindle cats. You will find specimens with striped fur in several breeds, such as European, Bengal, Egyptian Maw, Ocicat, Savannah, and Exotic Shorthair.

Tiger cats have a strong personalities, sometimes being very selfish

Most owners of bred cats describe their pets as full of personality.

They may experience sudden mood swings and disappear for a short period, after which they return home. In addition, stray cats can be extremely selfish and may consider that everything in the house belongs to them.

You have to be very firm with them if you want to keep them away from the bed or other areas of the house. Otherwise, they will only do what they want.

Tiger cats love cleanliness

Like most cats, they are well cared for. Although they do not like to bathe, they will spend a considerable part of the day washing and cleaning themselves. In addition, they like to keep the house clean and have a problem, especially with the trash. It can scratch too much and even scatter the waste in the trash if you don't throw it away very often.

Tiger cats can have several striped patterns

Tiger cat breeds can have many patterns on their bodies, and some of them have spots. These spots can be bright, causing the cat to look close to a leopard or, on the contrary, to be almost invisible.

The most common fur patterns of brindle cats are black, but there are several variations of the pigment, resulting in black, orange, or gray cats. Interestingly, the orange striped cat is usually male (about 75–80%).

The types of fur

There are several interesting models of brindle cats. Here are the most popular ones, according to excitedcats.com:

Classic - The classic model has stripes on the face and head, with darker swirls on a lighter base, all over the body. These swirls are usually quite random and look like a marble countertop.

Mackeral - a model that resembles fish bones, with a long band on the back from shoulder to tail and a series of vertical stripes on the sides. This pattern is extremely common, being found in most breeds of brindle cats.

Frog shell pattern - This is a tricolor pattern, which is rare in male cats, but relatively common in female cats. It can be found in any breed, but most commonly in the following: Manx, Scottish Fold, and American Shorthair.

Agouti - Abyssinian or Agouti hair cats at least resemble a standard brindle cat. Although they have specific markings on the forehead and may have streaks on the face, the rest of the fur appears to be a solid color at a distance. But up close, they show the dark stripes common to brindle cats.

Regardless of the type of stripes a striped cat has, it is interesting that each feline has a unique pattern that will not be found in any other cat. It can be said that it is a kind of imprint of every kitten!

So, the bred cat breeds are some of the cutest cats, which integrate perfectly into any family, including those with children. Therefore, if you want a pet, consider this friendly cat!
