Who needs a hotel room when you have an RV?

For 3 straight days last weekend, I lived out of a car. To be fair, it wasn’t just a normal car, it was a recreational vehicle or RV for short. It was fun and is something that everyone needs to experience, but I will say that I was very excited to get back home.

With the RV parked in the driveway, we loaded up everything that we thought we might want for the next 3 days. Food, blankets, pillows, and games were all thrown into the vehicle and we were off. It only took a few minutes to realize that carsickness was going to be an issue. I have never really been one to get carsick, but an RV will do that do you. However, I discovered that laying on the bed was much more comfortable than sitting at the table playing games so that's where I spent most of my time.

We first stopped in Heber City, Utah. We were bummed to find out that our favorite burger joint in town called Annie’s was closed until the summer. Last summer a little burger joint called Annie’s served us well, but we were bummed to find out that they are closed until summer. So instead, we just decided to use their outdoor picnic tables and eat some sandwiches and chips that we brought with us.

We again hopped in the RV and continued heading east until we got to Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. If you have never heard of this place, you need to put it on the radar. This place is home to the most incredible combinations of mountains, rocks, trees, and water. It felt so good to finally get out of the RV, walk around the edge of the water, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. After spending about an hour trying to skip rocks to a floating dock, we headed over to a campsite where we parked the vehicle for the night.

The minute that we decided we were going to start a fire is when the wind really started picking up. Thankfully, I am an eagle scout and had no problem getting the fire rolling. By the way, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are delicious on smores.

Eventually, we got ready for bed. With six of us in the small RV, the sleeping arrangements were kind of tight. I drew the short end of the stick and was the one that ended up sleeping on the floor. On the bright side, the RV just had the hardwood floors repaired so I guess I can be thankful that at least they were clean.

We woke up to the bright sun shining through the windshield. I surprisingly slept pretty well on the floor with only a thin pad between me and the hard floor. We had some cereal and then played washers. I had never played washers, but it was all of my friend's favorite game and now it might be mine too. The game is similar to cornhole but a bit more fun in my opinion.

Flaming Gorge is home to some very incredible overlooks. After breakfast and washers, we loaded up and went to an overlook where we spent about an hour just enjoying the incredible scenery. We also spend a good majority of that time trying to throw snowballs far enough off of the overlook to reach the water down below, but we were never successful.

The next couple of days were spent driving around to explore the area. Eventually, we came back home, took a shower, and caught up on schoolwork. While I won’t miss the carsickness, it was an experience that I’m glad I had.
