Raja Raja Chozhan : Greatest King In World History

Raja Raja Chozhan (aka ArunMozhiVarman), also known as Rajaraja Chozhan I, was a powerful emperor of the Chozha Dynasty who ruled in southern India from 985 CE to 1014 CE.

He is widely considered to be one of the greatest rulers of the Chozhan Dynasty, and his reign is remembered for its political and cultural achievements.

One of Raja Raja Chozhan's most notable achievements was his military conquests.

He led successful military campaigns against the kingdoms of Sri Lanka, the Pandyas, and the Cheras, expanding the Chozha Empire to its greatest extent.

He was also able to defeat the Western Chalukyas and the Eastern Chalukyas, who were powerful kingdoms in southern India at the time.

In addition to his military conquests, Raja Raja Chozhan is also remembered for his many public works projects.

He built many temples, irrigation systems, and public buildings during his reign.

The most famous of these is the Big Temple (Peruvudayaar Kovil) in Thanjavur, which is considered to be one of the greatest architectural achievements of the Chozha Dynasty.

Raja Raja Cholan was the first to assume the title “ Mummudi Chola Deva”( being adorned with three crowns of Chola, Chera and Pandya) at a very young age.

Raja Raja Cholan’s first praised victory was the acquisition of Kerala country which was ruled by the Cheras. The historic literary works like Thiruvalangadu plates and the Meykkirtti states the capture of Madurai and conquer of Pandya King Amarabujanga. Conquest of Sri Lanka. After conquering most of South Indian regions, Raja Raja Chola the great set his eyes on Izham (Srilanka). Raja Raja the Great is said to have conquered Izhamandalam, which was ruled by the fierce king Singhalese and anchored the Chola flag.

The Chola military was a well-organized and effective fighting force during medieval times. With his capital at Thanjavur, he utilized the first few years in building a strong army and preparing for military expeditions.

Rajaraja Chozhan I created a powerful standing army and a considerable navy, which achieved even greater success under his son Rajendra Chozhan I than under himself.

The army consisted of the Infantry, Cavalry and Elephant Corps. Conquest of Sri Lanka. After conquering most of South Indian regions, Raja Raja Chozhan the great set his eyes on Izham (Srilanka).

Raja Raja the Great is said to have conquered Izhamandalam, which was ruled by the fierce king Singhalese and anchored the Chola flag. His thirst for the region was insatiable, he expanded his reign in most of the Northern Sri Lanka, which came to be known as the “Mummudi Chola Mandalam”. And to signify his power over Srilanka he constructed a stone temple at Polanaruva.

Raja Raja Chozhan was also a patron of the arts and culture. He is said to have encouraged the development of literature, music, and dance during his reign. He also sponsored the construction of many grand temples,

which were not only places of worship but also centres of culture and learning.

During the governance by the Cholas, the entire southern region was brought under the umbrella of a single governing force. The Cholas ruled in a sustained Monarchy.

The massive kingdom was divided into provinces which were known as mandalams.

Separate governors were held in charge for each mandalam.

These were further divided into districts called nadus which consisted of tehsils.

The system of rule was such that each village acted as a self-governing unit during the era of the Cholas. The Cholas were ardent patrons of art, poetry, literature and drama,

the administration was seen investing in the construction of several temples and complexes with sculptures and paintings.

The king remained the central authority who would make the major decisions and carry out the governance.

He also built a strong navy which helped him in expanding his empire and also protected his kingdom from foreign invasions.

Raja Raja Chozhan was also a great warrior, his army was well-trained and well-equipped.

His army contained about 1.2 Million men, 60000 Elephants , 0.3 Million Horses.

It is 10 times bigger than the Great King Alexander's Army.

He used to lead his army from the front and was known for his bravery and strategy.

His army was a combination of various castes and communities, which helped him in fighting different types of wars.

In conclusion, Raja Raja Chozhan was a great ruler who is remembered for his military conquests,

public works projects, patronage of the arts, culture and literature, administrative policies, and bravery.

His reign was a golden age in the history of the Chozhan Dynasty, and his legacy continues to be celebrated to this day.
