Everest Base Camp

I know most of you have listened to the word "Altitude Sickness" which is a common word to see in your books, magazines, or social media. Only listening to the word is not enough, you have to be sure about the symptoms and preventions of altitude sickness. When you are going on your trip to the highest altitude for the first time or several times you have to be aware of altitude sickness which is dangerous during your trek.

My first experience at Everest Base Camp

After a long plan with my colleagues, we were going on our first trek to the Everest Base Camp which lasts for 14 days. We planned it for our November holidays which is a great time to travel to the Everest region and we were full of excitement. We did our Kathmandu City Tour before embarking on our trail for collecting our mountaineering equipment which was needed during hiking and get ready our backpacks. On the first day of our trekking, we were going to Lukla; the gateway to Everest via a flight the scene from the flight was awesome where everything is seen as tiny. We got refreshed after we landed at Tenzing-Hillary Airport; Lukla and got a chance to explore the surroundings and the little Lukla visit tour.

After completing all procedures which were to be done for the Everest Base Camp Trek, we also got a chance to visit Sagarmatha National Park where we got interacted with the endangered animals, birds, and trees that were kept in a well-conserved way inside the conservation area. We started our trekking to Phakding on the second day of our journey and from there we were forwarded to Namche Bazaar for our first acclimatization day where we got to know everything around the Bazaar and most of the tourists are here for Namche Bazaar Trek and Everest View Trek too. It was fascinating to get there. The local people of Namche Bazaar were friendly to us and their lifestyles, cultures, and traditions were unimaginable. At every step of our trail, we were hiking to a high altitude and we were enjoying the trip and get interacted with snowy mountain ranges which were awe-inspiring and well fascinating. I didn’t expect that in Nepal we were seeing the scenic view which was seen in the photos or art.

We were get interacted with lots of things over there but on my first acclimatization day I got symptoms of altitude sickness I ignored it by thinking, it was just a climatical change in my body. As I am hiking to the high altitude my body was not in a good manner though I hiked through trekking routes cause I was full of excitement but not aware of the altitude sickness.

I got to know about altitude sickness:

On the second acclimatization day at Dingboche, our leader; guide talks about "Altitude Sickness" as I just know the meaning of it but never felt it. It is a milder version of acute mountain sickness which is called altitude sickness caused by rapid exposure to low oxygen at high altitudes. As we were hiking to the highest altitude of 5,364 m altitude sickness can be fatal in several situations. They mentioned, if you ascend gently, you can usually avoid getting altitude sickness, which typically follows a quick ascent.

There are several symptoms of altitude sickness:

  • Headaches
  • Appetite loss
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling of hands, feet, and face

The above-mentioned symptoms are caused in the initial stage of altitude sickness which is cured initially by drinking plenty of water, ascending slowly, avoiding alcohol drinking, smoking, etc.

After I got to know more about altitude sickness, I followed every single precaution to get out of altitude sickness and completed successfully my EBC Trek. It was a nice and most awesome trek ever as I got to know about altitude sickness so, be aware of this and get ready for your trekking. After proceeding through every single route to EBC we finally reached there and celebrated our success there and then we got back to our home safely. It is better to travel during spring in Nepal, better luck next time for sure we are going.

Moreover, there are other symptoms too which are to be cured wisely on the instructions provided by the travelers and trekkers. Next time we are planning our Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour as well as Visiting Every Top Viewpoint to view Mt.Everest to see the Himalayan Ranges with my naked eyes comfortably and I don't want to get into trouble again as I have mentioned I felt altitude sickness for the first time and it was really not a good experience of it. So better do it via a flight tour and complete every single highest spot of the Himalayan nation, Nepal.

I truly appreciated the trustworthy trekking company Nepal Trek Adventures which helps us to get the proper time to trek and the best trekking routes with the better leader and porters on our trails. We were more excited to get there and enjoy our holiday with lots of joy and happiness.
