I am a great believer that love changes everything. It is the greatest quality there is.Patience and Trust right behind it. If a person or an animal has never experienced Love, they most likely will not trust you,and in most cases be aggressive. When love is not there walls are built up. I have seen this time and time again. Some people may accept this with people but not with animals. Animals have emotions too. For us to have a society that works there are certain things that are needed. If we apply them to our lives I can guarantee we will see a difference, not only in the world but in ourselves. I want you to write them down. Meditate on them, apply them and prove me wrong. Now here are the ingredients that if you apply them they will change your life forever. Love Patience Trust Forgiveness Empathy and Listening. There is something important you have to understand for this too work. Most people do not understand forgiveness, a lot of people have the wrong idea about forgiveness, and find it hard to do, because !they have the wrong idea. Once you know how it really works it is much easier too do.

“some people do not deserve forgiveness.”

Pamela looked at the student and recognised him. He had not long joined the college, he was a very moody young man, always wore black, and wore clothes that looked to hot for the California weather. She said.

You are right there in one way Zach, And that is the response you will get all the time from people. But it is also the response that stops you from growing, and more Importantly being healed, and set free. You see when someone hurts you, abuses you when you do not forgive them , you are holding on to that hurt, that anger that pain, and it keeps you captive in chains. It can keep you there all your life. The person who has been the abuser just gets on with their life, it doesn’t hurt them. But the person who has been hurt thinks about it all the time, puts up walls shuts themselves off from others. They end up bitter Lonely and over time , the hurt held, festers and attacks the body. But when you forgive them, the forgiveness is not for their sake, it is for you. For you to be free taking away the power that thing has over you. I know you are saying but that is not fair. ever heard of a thing called karma. There is an old saying. You reap what you sow, at some point in their life they will answer for it. It is not your problem. Your duty is to free yourself. Once you realise that ,when it really sinks in , you find it gets easier and easier to forgive. We are coming to the end of this lesson, for homework I want you to apply what we have discussed here today, I will see you all next week. I look forward to hearing about your results. I have some little black books here. I want you to take one, use it as a journal write everything down. If you have any questions come see me.

Pamela Jackson was a counsellor with her own practice four days of the week, and one day at the local college. She was in her late forties and was a widow. Life had given her many obstacles to overcome, many struggles , she was teaching from the heart. Lessons learnt the hard way and not just in books. To look at her you would think she hadn‘t a care in the world. Her face was peaceful and open. She had lovely red hair and clear blue eyes. The only wrinkles on her face were laughter lines. She was a woman who loved to laugh. She also had a great big heart, a great capacity for love. Pamela had found that empathy and love for people. She had overcome what life had thrown at her . Loved life and was determined to live it , and get the most out of it. She was also a secret author of romance novels under a pseudo name. Emma Fitzpatrick. She loved nothing better than to make stories up, they were her babies, and she even had entered competitions. One time she won first prize of $20.000. That prize money had allowed her to change her life and become a counsellor. Before she had won the prize money , she was working as a carer in the mornings in an old people’s home, and at night three times a week as a waitress in a local Bistro. In between all of that she was going to night class to train as a counsellor.
It had always been her desire to help people, With the prize money she was able to give up her waitress job at nights. Freeing her time for study. Pamela was proud of herself, her family did not have the money to send her to college after school. Her mother had gotten pregnant at sixteen with Pamela , then went on to have three other children sadly with different fathers. Pamela never knew her father, and give her mother her due,she kept them fed and clean. Her weakness was always falling in love. She never really grew up. She always loved the feeling weddings gave her.Her head was always in the clouds. Sometimes Pamela wondered who the mother was, as she was the practical one. Often her mother would look to her for advice. She was now on her fifth husband Andrew , who Pamela thought was the best of the bunch. She hoped this one would last.

Pamela herself was married at twenty one to Jack, he was a nice enough man,she often wondered though if she married him, just to get away from all the responsibility at home. She had longed for stability and feeling safe. Jack was all of those things,Reliable and stable. But he did not fill the hunger that was inside her. That was probably the reason she wrote the romance novels She thought. A few years back he was driving home, it was a wet dark night. A deer ran out in front of him he tried to avoid hitting it, swerved the car, it rolled over and he was killed. She was twenty nine years old when she became a widow. Pamela was sad of course she was,but if she was truthful it was more to do with the fact that she valued life, hated to see anything die, rather than he was her husband.

Her week flew by, as she was driving to college she was wondering how The week went for the students, had they applied what she had imparted to them, She was especially interest to hear what Zach had to say. When she entered the room she looked round to see if he was there, he wasn’t and she felt disappointed. Turning to everyone she was about to say let’s get started when the door opened and Zach walked in. For some reason she felt a sigh of relieve.

Now everyone if we are all here let us begin. How was your week ? Did you fill your Journals, did you put into action all you were taught, and did you see a difference in your lives, and your situations ? . I do not expect dramatic changes , this takes time.but if you continue with it you will see them I promise. A young woman put her hand up with a smile on her face. Pamela said yes Cindy? . I saw first hand what you were talking about at the weekend. I volunteered at the local dog shelter, it really was an experience. There was a new dog brought in very aggressive very frightened it was difficult To get near it. Then I was watching one of the most experienced handlers spending time with the dog. Talking gently and lovingly to it, he showed a lot of patience waiting for the dog to trust him, then I realised this was the very thing you were talking about. It took hours for the dog just to come out of the cage. The dog had never known human hands could be so gentle and loving, he was raised to be a fighting dog. But right before my eyes, I saw his personality change, he became the most loving dog wagging his tail and kissing . He physically stopped shaking, and snarling.

That is wonderful, thank you Cindy, anyone else ?. Several people shared their experiences of that week. One or two of them spoke of the wonder of actually feeling the burden coming off their shoulders and feeling free. Pamela was hoping Zach would have his own story to tell, but if he did he kept it to himself. She was convinced in herself he was greatly troubled, she saw the signs many times in her line of work. But unless he felt free to trust her ,she would have to stand by and watch him struggle with his hurt. As the weeks turned into months, more and more people not only were they talking about the changes in their lives she could see the changes. People smiling more.their countenance lighter happier. They discussed in the class how every life mattered,no matter the colour.otherwise it was still discrimination. The change had to start with ourselves, that included loving yourself and forgiving yourself. Treating everyone the way you wanted to be treated, with respect and integrity. If not! nothing would change, it would be an never ending cycle. It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong. Everyone Is in entitled to their opinion. What wasn’t okay was for someone to control you. Everyone is given free choice when you have that taken away from you , you are coming under something that is evil. Some people can’t help themselves they have to be in control. Yes there is a place for a leader, Someone to make decisions in business For example. We do need leaders in business, schools etc. I am not talking about that kind of control. That is necessary , I am talking about someone like a bully who is making you do things against your will. Someone playing mind games. That is not healthy. There are forces you can open yourself up too as well, that can hold you captive. We have to be very careful with what you let into your mind. Garbage in garbage out. Too many young people are influenced today,by their heros. They make idols out of them, and they are impressionable.

A few weeks later nearing the end of the semester, Zach walked into the class and Pamelas‘ heart leaped. It was the first time in all the months he wore a colour other than black. He had on a pale blue pullover and smiled at her Oh what a smile. She felt the tears come to her eyes as she smiled back. The scowl had gone, and she had hope.

As this is the last class for this Semester, I would like you to hand in the little black books I gave you. I hope you have managed to fill them up.I will grade them and give you them back. Hopefully if you are with me next semester we will be using new ones. Put them on my desk on your way out thank you. After Everyone had gone Pamela collect the journals to put in her briefcase, she would read them at home. But she could not wait until later to see if Zach had written anything in his. She opened the little black book and smiled. He had written. It works !

The end.
