Is Johnny Depp Getting The Comeback He Needs?

Is his Public Image Beyond Repair?

So Johnny Depp seems to be having a stroke of good luck with the announcement of the new film he will be starring in. The film will about King Louis XV, who reigned for fifty nine years. He was also nicknamed Louis The Beloved, even though he at the time his reign ended he wasn’t seen to be a popular King because of the accusations of his corruption. A title for this film hasn’t been shared, nor has the plot for the film been shared or spoken about. All that has been reported is that Johnny Depp will star in this leading role, the film will likely take three months to film in France starting next summer, and it is a much needed film for Johnny Depp given all of the controversy that has surrounded him the last few years.

I do find it interesting that this film is about a man who was loved by many, while having been surrounded with controversial accusations for the time. I can see this as the perfect opportunity for Johnny Depp to get back on his acting feet and really sink his teeth and all of the pain he’s had to go through, all into this role. Of course we don’t know the tone that will be set for this film. With Johnny Depp’s acting range, it could really be anything. Whatever the tone or genre it may be, it will still be something to see. And given that he won’t be returning to the Fantastic Beasts franchise this is a good concept to jump onto.

So this leaves the question, will this be the movie that will act as the comeback role that Johnny Depp needs at this point?

I don’t know if it will be so simple.

If I’m talking about myself personally I really hope so. With everything that has happened, with the lies Amber Heard has been caught in over and over again, it’s my believe that Johnny Depp needs to be able to have this moment to shine, especially after Amber Heard and her supporters have gone out of their way to smother that shine, even if it meant hurting his children in the process.

Even with those lies that Amber has been caught in, there will still be people who won’t want to see that whole picture. There will still be people who will go out of their way to boycott the film once it comes out in order to keep “canceling” Johnny Depp. That is something that probably won’t go away for a while, if at all.

To which I have to ask: Why should Johnny Depp even be canceled? Why? He hasn’t even been charged or convicted of anything; so why should there be a single person who wants to cancel him? Doesn’t he have the right, as an American citizen, the right to a fair trial in a court of law? Why do those who hide behind keyboards think they have the power to help in destroying a person’s life, especially when everything that has been said is alleged?

This isn’t me saying we shouldn’t believe victims. That’s not it at all. This is me saying we need to look at the whole picture before we continue to convict Johnny Depp in the court of public opinion. Why? Because there’s still the very likely chance that Johnny Depp was the victim to Amber Heard’s abusive behavior.

But I digress.

It’s going to take more than just one big role to really became the likeable figure for some people. Chances are it’s going to take something closer to three big roles, maybe even five big roles. All the while, the court proceedings for all the law suits going back and forth between Depp and Heard also have to be taken into consideration. So if you think about that it’s probably going to take something closer to six big roles to be able to be seen as someone likable for some people.

This is something I find humorous, just to go off topic for a moment. That a person could be seen as the scum of the earth, then the second they make a great film all of the darkness can be washed away. It’s something I have noticed more and more as time goes on with celebrity culture. The only difference is it seems like it was made easier for Amber, when we didn’t even know the whole story yet.

This mentioned truth is becoming less and less common with the access to information and the vast spreading of this information all of this is caught quickly. Hence why it people jumped on Johnny Depp as fast as they did, to then turning back around to Amber Heard when the truth was made available to everyone who wanted watch this soap opera from hell. So it’s hard to really say what this new film will mean for Johnny Depp. I do think it will be a great start to at least be working and back in the public in the ways of his art.

The final thing I want to talk about for a moment. The last post I made about this saga, I was accused of only wanting to spread hate against Amber Heard and that everything I’ve ever posted is all about hating Amber Heard.

This isn’t true. Anyone who has seen and read what I’ve posted will know I cover a little bit of everything. Both in fiction and non-fiction or opinion pieces, and everything else that can mingle in between. With these opinion pieces, I make it clear that this is honestly just my opinion and I am using my platform just to start a conversation. Not to get into fights with anyone, but to have conversations with people about this small thing happening in the world that bothers me. I do also know that when you look at everything going on in the world, there a bigger issues to worry about. I know this and will be talking about more pressing issues in the world in the near future. This is just the thing that popped in my head to talk about, just as it was the times before when I wrote about the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard saga. And as always, I hope I don’t have to write about these people anymore. Or at the very least for a while.
