A script that seems like someone has carved beauty using a sword on the canvas. Those swirly letters, we all awe about one day or another. We feel like doing it but eh! It seems too hard to excel at. The most we think we can do is to create a new script that has never been created before. But someday we leap over our fears and insecurities to gain an extra mile, an extra skill, an extra territory. If you have thought of trying this luscious art today, pat yourself. This is something that not many think of. And as you’ve thought of it, you surely might want to excel at it too. Right? This is what this article is here for.

Not all of us choose the right materials

To start off, you'll need a calligraphy pen, ink, and paper. It never should be questioned. There are different types of calligraphy pens available. For example, dip pens, brush pens, etc. First, you’ve to find what comforts you. Yes. Calligraphy is not about rigidity but comfort. Your hand must flow in a fluid manner. So, choose a pen that you feel comfortable with and that suits your writing style. Check out an eBay alternative, explore it thoroughly, and buy one that pleases your hand.

Basic strokes are the foundation

Before you dive into writing words and phrases, know that you must practice the basic strokes. Now, what are these basic strokes? The basic strokes in calligraphy include the upstroke, downstroke, and curve stroke. Practice these strokes repeatedly, every day, until you feel comfortable and confident. You’ll soon notice that as you grow up by days, your art starts to resonate with beauty. You might slowly start hearing those around you sighing in awes.

Style is everything

Hey! I understand stroke, that we need to move our hand in different ways, but style? What is style? Well, style is that unique trait that sets different artists apart. Van Gogh had a style that Picasso had not; Beethoven had a style that Bach had not. Similarly, you’ll have a style that none will have. And a level up, you’ll have a style that the world will try to imitate.

When it comes to calligraphy, there are many different styles. You’ll find styles such as Copperplate, Gothic, and Uncial. Choose a style that speaks to you and that you feel drawn to. You can find many tutorials and resources online to help you learn different styles. And as you start excelling at them, you’ll find that your own personality is giving your calligraphy a new shape, a new path. Now, enhance this style.

Take it easy peasy

The realm of arts & crafts is the realm of spirituality and patience. You do not rush but cherish the journey, be one with it. Similarly, calligraphy is a slow and deliberate process. Take your time with each letter and stroke. Feel them. Be one with them. Don't rush through the process. You'll get better results if you take your time and focus on each stroke.

Practice, practice, practice

As with any skill, practice is key. You cannot fly through the clouds without practising the take-off a thousand times. And then it comes down to further other things. Calligraphy is no different. You need to train your mind, and your hand, to flow and create what you imagine in your brain. Set aside some time each day to practice your calligraphy. You'll improve faster if you practice consistently and regularly.

Inspiration works like fuel

A day might come when you feel that your growth has stopped. This is the time to seek what has already been created to inspire your brain. Look for inspiration and motivation from other calligraphers. You can find many calligraphy accounts on social media, such as Instagram and Pinterest. Seeing the beautiful work of others can motivate and inspire you to keep practising and improving.

So, take a deep breath, pick up your pen, and give it a shot. You might just surprise yourself with what you can create!
