Nigerian filmmaker, actress, writer, and producer, Biodun Stephen, is undoubtedly one of the biggest and most successful filmmakers in Nigeria today. Biodun is a storyteller, and has been responsible for giving us some of the best movies out of Nigeria. One of such movies is the very wonderfully done movie "Breaded Life" which stars Timini Egbuson as the lead.

During a new interview with Chude, Biodun Stephen opens up about how she didn't think Timini Egbuson was actually a great actor when she first met him, and what he said and did to convince her otherwise so much so that she gave him the lead role in 'Breaded Life'. Here's what Biodun said.

Biodun Stephen during interview

During the interview, Biodun Stephen was asked "Timini has always been a phenomenal actor but he's typecast. But you took him, you cooked him, how was that with Timini?" to which she said:

BIODUN STEPHEN: Typecasting is very normal in this our industry. Timini had eight months with the script [for Breaded Life]. And then one thing I like about Timini is when I first met him on another film, when we finished filming - because I also didn't think he was a great actor - I just thought he was y'know. And then when he came and I said "Timini this is amazing", he said "I came to impress you" and that is all I need. Because I need you to be as hungry as I am. To be hungry as I am, when I give you the role, you will use your life and your blood and your sweat to do it. Cuz that character was not even written for him initially. But just that statement that he said "I came Aunty Biodun to impress you", because I was impressed on that film. I was like I have another film for you. And also, because of past records, other actors who have seen what I do with other actors, when you're coming, you're not coming to slay, you are coming to abandon yourself and become the character. And so I think that it is always expected. So when I call you, that is what I want you to give me - another person, just become the character. Don't tell me I still need to slay. No, don't do that! Because I want you to be able to when you're looking at yourself in the mirror, you are seeing not you, but the character. And Timini, that's what he gave. He gave himself without holding anything back.
