Singers Niniola and Teni are sisters from a polyamorous home where their father married three wives. Growing up with two mothers is already a unique experience, not to talk of growing up with three different mothers. Speaking about how that life was, and what it taught her, here is what singer Niniola had to say about her three mothers

Speaking about how it was to grow up in a polyamorous family and have three mothers raise you, Niniola said:

NINIOLA: My father married three wives and he made sure that we lived in harmony before he died and that’s what we continued, even after his death. It taught me how to share with people, because you just had to share. You had to look after people, you had to do your house chores. It basically taught me how to love and how to be responsible. It took me a while to understand that it’s not like the normal family because to me, I grew up there and it was normal to me. The life lessons I learned in my house – they carried me through.

Speaking about how all three of her mothers reacted to her dream of becoming a professional musician, Niniola revealed saying:

NINIOLA: They felt good. I have three mothers and they are so proud of me and they have always been there for me. And I’m using this opportunity to thank them for taking good care of me and my siblings. For being there for us, I’m saying thank you. Also, the media are always there to support my music. There is no me without the media, so I thank them. Well, everybody knows how our parents want us to be doctors, lawyers etc. So at first, my mum (as my dad is late) didn’t accept it, but after a while she didn’t have a choice, she just had to give in. As for my friends they were excited, their own is just be successful.

Niniola's three mothers

Wow! Having not one, not two, but three mothers, that is a very unique experience. It's good to see that for the Apata family, it all really worked out, and became a learning ground for them on sharing and how to live with others. It is a take we don't often hear enough about from polyamorous homes. What do you think about what Niniola said?
