According to older generations, millennials are changing a lot of things. From job opportunities to development of industries and all the way to dating. They do everything differently, which may seem odd to other generations, especially the way they look at dating.

Some may say millennials are not that much into relationships anymore. Some may say that they are doing it wrong, that they are only playing with each other’s emotions or that they are just having sex here and there. This may be odd to older generations, but let’s see how exactly are millennials changing the world of dating.

The Non-Monogamy

Millennials are more open to breaking the rules of relationships than the older generations. They don’t feel like monogamy is the only possibility for their dating and sex life, so they don’t exclusively stick to it. Yes, that maybe even confuses lots of people, since you can never be sure if you’re dating exclusively, but that’s just how millennials like it. They like that extra free space they have and not fully committing to only one person. They understand this concept better mostly because many of them come from divorced parents, so they don’t see the point in being monogamous. This way, they are leaving space for avoiding the mistakes their parents potentially made.

Sex Toys

Sex toys and their use have been a bit of a taboo, but millennials changed that as well. They use it more and more in their relationships, both casual and committed ones. The reason behind this is not something complex. Rather, millennials are embracing them because today, such toys are very intuitive and are made to satisfy their sexual needs. Obviously, that is something everyone wants and millennials are not afraid to admit it. It basically comes to enjoying sex more than the actual dating.

On the other hand, some of them use toys to stay connected. Some of the sex toys can be connected to the internet and that comes in handy to those who are in long-distance relationships. Also, if they are in a committed relationship, they can use sex toys on their partners who are on a business trip and allows them to experience a full sexual satisfaction long distance. But often, it’s just fun to use them and they bring something new to the table.

Online Dating

This is probably the biggest thing that affected today’s dating. Millennials are practically attached to their phones non-stop and they used them for their dating habits, among other things. That is why we now have a lot of dating apps available, with Tinder being the most popular one. However, why do millennials use such apps that much?

Most millennials thrive to have successful careers and make as much money as possible before they commit to a long-term relationship. This leaves them with less time to go out, have fun and search for partners. However, what makes this search easier are exactly those online dating sites and apps. With them, you can easily swipe left and right while searching, without having to engage in serious and often boring and tedious conversations. You can simply rely on the local dating site or app to find you the potential partners (no matter what your needs are) and you simply have to choose who you like or not.

This is probably the biggest game-changer since they don’t have to waste their time going out. They can simply do it from work, home or any other place.

Male Birth Control

Birth control

For decades, women were the ones in charge for making sure they don’t end up in an unwanted pregnancy. However, millennials are now more open to male birth control. Okay, it is still not on the market, but if they were, everyone would gladly use them.

There are similar products, such as Vasalgel, an injection that can stop the flow of sperm, but scientists are working on the pill. The first one they developed has been halted because it had some extreme side-effects, but they are not giving up on it. There is a major generation divide when it comes to this since most of the Millennials would say yes to it, while older generations are more conservative and believe those things are only for women.

Couple

Okay, not all millennials are breaking the rules. There are still ones that cherish the tradition and monogamy. However, the technology, the internet and a bigger urge for a business success have changed their ways of dating, but who says it’s wrong. As long as everyone is comfortable, live and let live.
