Corey arrived home from work at around 2 am, he is the closing manager at a local restaurant, he had not had time at work to really eat anything, so he had brought home a sandwich and a slice of chocolate cake. Yes, he knew he didn’t need the cake, but they made their deserts from scratch at the restaurant and the chocolate cake was by far the best they had, or at least in Corey’s opinion. He got himself set up in front of the tv in the living room, turned on the tv set, made sure it wasn’t too loud and prepared to eat his sandwich. After a bit he thought he would like a drink and went into the kitchen to get a glass of juice, upon making it to the fridge he saw the note held to the fridge door by a magnet “can you start a load of laundry, love you”. After doing so he sat back down to continue eating, “Damnit” he thought to himself as he remembered the drink he never poured.

Corey really just wanted that piece of chocolate cake but knew that he had better eat something a little more solid and so continued on the sandwich. Nearing the end of the sandwich his anticipation for the delectable, delicious, sweetness of the chocolate cake was nearing fever pitch. He was eyeing the cake more than whatever show he happen to have on the tv at the time. With only a bite left of his sandwich he was interrupted by the buzzing of the washing machine finishing its cycle. He knew he was going to be up a bit longer, so he decided to go ahead and switch the clothes over to the dryer and start it up.

Corey came back out to finish his last bite of sandwich to find the dog longingly looking at the front door. “I guess you want to go out, huh” he said to the dog as he called him to the back door to let her out. He stood on the back porch to keep an eye on the 80-pound black lab but could not stop thinking about the mouthwatering piece of cake awaiting him back in the living room. The dog came prancing back into the house and Corey made his way back to the couch and his awaiting desire. Just as he sat down on the couch his 4 year of daughter came out of her room, rubbing her eyes in drowsy slumber, “Daddy, drink” the adorable little blue eyed, blonde said. Corey just smiled and picked her up and headed to the kitchen to get her a glass of water.

Now that his beautiful little munchkin was satisfied, all tucked back into bed, Corey was finally going to get to enjoy his wonderful delight. He tossed the last bite of his sandwich to the dog that was laying on the other end of the couch, who quickly gobbled up the treat, and started to reach for the cake, just as his phone rang.

“Who the F… is calling me at this time?” Corey thought to himself as he retrieved his phone from the end table. Seeing the caller ID was his brother, he went ahead and answered. “Yes Ted”

“Hey brooooother,” came the answer from the other end “I kiiinda neeeeed a ride”

Hearing just how sloshed his brother was from the slurred speech Corey knew he had to go get him “Where are you?”

“JJ’s on the Pass” Ted told him

“Alright I’ll be there shortly.” Corey resigned knowing that JJ’s was at least a twenty minute drive. He knew he would be gone at least forty five minutes but at least he had something to look forward to when he returned. With a wave of his hand to motion to the dog to accompany him Corey grabbed his stuff and left.

All the while he was out driving all Corey could think about was that scrumptious, succulent, delightfully chocolate slice of cake awaiting him at home. He had caught himself almost starting to speed up a little to much with the expectation of getting to devour it when he arrived. He pulled into the driveway, turned the car off, the dog beat him to the door, unlocked the door and proceeded in. Finally, nothing was going to stop him from enjoying his chocolate desire. As he entered the house, he found his unbelievably gorgeous wife sitting on the couch in her night gown.

“Hey baby” she greeted him with chocolate icing still on either side of her mouth.
