Most of you want to change yourself for better without having any clue whatsoever about what it really means. This is one of the primary reasons you will search for new things, new books, new blogs, new articles, or even new tactics to change yourself.

But what happens in the end?

All goes in vain, and you find yourself even more confused than before you actually read the whole thing. The straightforward reason for why that happens is that almost everything available over the internet only deals with the superficial level of the topic.

"It's like dealing with the symptoms without attending to the root cause."

You will not find any governing principle that deals with the science of improving yourself.

The interesting thing, however, about this science of self improvement is that even a layman can learn the principles by himself if he allows himself to give some time in order to deeply reflect upon his nature.

Do you, dear reader, have time for yourself? Don't worry if you don't. We have got you covered here.

Let's dive straight into it.

. . .

Are You Not Changing Already?

Changing is an essential part of everything in existence. In fact, you are constantly changing at every moment of your life from the cradle to the grave.

For example, you were a child some years back in time, and now you are a mature adult capable of making rational decisions.

Also, your behavior. Sometimes you're angry and sometimes you're very calm.

So What Can You Change Then?

The four key principles behind changing yourself discussed below will create a foundation for a permanent improvement of your character.

Human beings have free will that enables them to choose to act however they want in any given circumstances. This is what differentiates us all from every other species - - The power of choice. From this discussion we can derive the first principle.

Principle 1. " The things you can change in yourself are of two types: first is that which you have control over, and second is that which you have no control over."

As for the things you have control over and thus you can change them in yourself involves many aspects of your life such as:

financial,

health,

behavior,

spiritual,

mental,

management, and many more.

From that it may be noted that whatever you want to change about yourself purely depends upon which aspect of your life needs to be improved.

Right? Then.

Principle 2. "Whatever you want to change, or rather improve in yourself, purely depends upon which aspect of your life is in need of improvement because not everything is in need of change."

How To Decide What You Want To Change?

Many people have problems in deciding what they should change first in their lives. Even I face the same problem sometimes and then, I am like - how to decide what do I change when there is so much to change about myself?

This is very simple actually even if you have never given it a thought. It can be summed up in the following principle…

Principle 3. "The desire to change yourself arises out of the desire to seek happiness in the end. So seek things that will make you happy in the long run and not instantly."

Why Seek Long-Run Happiness?

You must have noticed that you feel better when you do something that excites you and gives you instantaneous pleasure at the same time. This usually happen with the things that you want.

But when you set a goal to get something that you need and not something that you want you feel happy. Right?

Principle 4. "While deciding what you should change about yourself ask yourself this - do you just want it or do you need it?"

Take Away Point

There are many other principles related to this topic. What I have mentioned above are the basic and fundamental ones that should give you a good start in your journey to change or rather improve yourself. .

In summary they are:

  • The things you can change in yourself are of two types: first is that which you have control over, and second is that which you have no control over.
  • Whatever you want to change, or rather improve in yourself, purely depends upon which aspect of your life is in need of improvement because not everything is in need of change.
    • The desire to change yourself arises out of the desire to seek happiness in the end. So seek things that will make you happy in the long run and not instantly.
    • While deciding what you should change about yourself ask yourself this - do you just want it or do you need it?
