Best Friend

BEST FRIENDS. How many of us have them?

There is so many definitions of a “Best friend”, and what makes them THE best. The term Bestfriend gets you placed on high pedestal.

How did that individual even achieve that title ? Did you consider them your best friend first or they just gave you this title ? Maybe quantity outweighing the true quality of the friendship. So many different scenarios, we all know to familiar.

Often times this is a person who you value above other friends in your life, someone you have fun with, someone you trust and someone in whom you confide in. The first person you call when you get good news ,want to go out to eat with and may even tell your secrets to.

Over the years some friendships turn into family . I don’t put titles on any friendships I have . Each and everyone are very important in their unique way. Sure I have those I consider closer friends. However the term best friend to me , feels territorial and not always a positive thing.

Building friendships as an adult is challenging as it is . Now throwing the term “Best friend” in the equation. A headache. An unnecessary one.

Taking an honest look back in my past encounters . The people who were labelled as my “Best friends” They tended to like who I was better then themselves. That in itself freaked me out. I am a huge advocate on everyone embracing themselves! Just because you may have similar values doesn’t mean your lives have to be the exact same.

Almost like the same way you want the best for your best friend , and all things good . Why not be that facinated with your own life? I don’t want anyone who fascinates about me , as some magical being and loosing sight of themselves. You’re born to sparkle !

Contrary to popular belief , a Best Friend is not someone who has the same taste in music, food or clothes as you do. A Clone.. No. It’s someone who understands and respects the differences. The beautiful differences bring us together. So finding out what makes a best friend the best is less about specific experiences you’ve had with them and more how you feel about that friendship.

For example , for years I have not had Instagram. So if you’re someone who needs to post it on social media . As oppose to calling me or sending me a private meaningful message ... For what ? To prove to outsiders that you know me ? Why you are the BEST friend ? I always found it ridiculous and weird. I honestly believe that in itself causes unnecessary tension . Real Best friends really do get you. It’s not just superficial, not just pretend who you are on social media. The good , the bad and sometimes real ugly .

The term Best Friend will have people competing for a spot that just doesn’t exist, in my book that is.

At different stages of life, its good to be friends with people who have different perspectives. People in great friendships don’t have to have certain things in common, like age, political views, or even life events. But what’s important in these cases is staying in touch and connected through the different experiences. Let me clarify, keep in contact , does not mean every single day either . I do not like that .

The term best friend holds some heavy weight to it . How can you be anything less , if you first are not your OWN best friend? I don’t think anyone on earth knows you , as you know yourself. No one .

Motivation comes in many forms, and your best friend should really be inspiring you to be your best self. A best friend should be somebody who makes you want to be a better person. Now don’t let that go over your head , it should be vice versa . Not just one person doing the motivating .

Whether you’ve exchanged BFF necklaces or not, you may have one friend you consider your “best friend.” But, especially as you get older and go through a range of life experiences, your relationships shift and you can get closer to different people.

Now I’m certain you’re reading this like , what is she talking about ? Did she understand the concept of the challenge ? And the answer is yes, I just have a completely different outlook to it.

If I HAVE to choose one Best friend. She’s me. I am her. I am my very OWN best friend.

Life continues its incredible journey, so many intimate friends moved in and out of my life, but none replaced the sole position you have, as my best friend. Thank you.

Best friends are like diamonds, precious and rare, and you my love are the most sparkling gem of them all. I’d like to say, 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐘 𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐓 . Thank you for loving me . And for the bad times, know that I always care and I’m here rooting for you. You believed in me , when I stopped believing in myself. I only started believing in a myself because you believed in me.
