Cats rescued from a cat collector situation in Aurora are now in need of homes. Ghost, a cat currently at the Aurora animal shelter, has recovered from being sick due to living with nearly 60 other cats and one human. The situation, referred to as a cat collector or hoarder situation by Aurora Animal Services, was deemed unhealthy for both the cats and humans involved. The homeowner initially believed they could care for all the cats, but the situation became unmanageable.

According to Augusta Allen, the field supervisor for Aurora Animal Services, the cats in this situation shared diseases, food bowls, and litter boxes. When the litter boxes became full, they stopped using them. While the homeowner was able to rehome some of the cats, Aurora Animal Services had to take in over 30 cats who were ill.

These cats suffered from various health issues, including upper respiratory and eye infections. Some even lost one or both eyes, such as Cy, who is now completely blind. All the cats required extensive veterinary care, but they have since recovered and are now healthy. They, along with Ghost and the rest of the group, are available for adoption at the animal shelter or local PetSmart stores.

Despite their challenging past, Augusta Allen assures that these cats will make wonderful pets. She describes them as adorable and loving, despite the conditions they came from and the medical treatments they have undergone.
