It's wonderful to be in a relationship. Companionship is great, having someone to care about you and love you is amazing. However, it seems that long-term relationships can sometimes go from fun and fabulous, to a rut. You can avoid having this happen to your relationship by trying one or more of the activities below. Every relationship takes work. Taking the time to plan things that you can do together is a fun way to keep the spark in your relationship.

Home Improvement

Instead of sitting around the house watching TV or scrolling through Facebook watching videos of a cat drinking out of toilet, tackle a home improvement project. That's right, working on something together is a great way to bond and have fun. Paint the bedroom a new color, work on a garden, or build something for the house. The most important thing is to do something together.

Learn Something

Consider what you, as a couple, enjoy. If you like being active, take ski lessons, learn to climb, or take a dance class. There are classes for almost anything you are interested in. Consider a cooking class, beer or wine making, or wood working class. The secret is to choose something that you both have an interest in.

Try Something New

You'll really break out of your rut if you try your hand at an open mic night. They are available for singing, but you can also find them for comedy. It's a fun and exhilarating experience that you'll always remember. If you enjoy entertaining, you may want to try out for a local theater group. Rehearsals and performances will keep you busy and bring you closer.

Volunteer

Do something to help others and make you feel good at the same time. You could visit the elderly at a senior care facility. Animal lovers could spend time at the local shelter, where you can walk the animals and play with them. Help save the planet by volunteering with local clean up campaigns in your area.

Babysit

Whether you are an empty nest couple, or a couple who is considering starting a family, babysitting together is a wonderful experience. Enjoy the sweet innocence of children. At the same time, you'll be preparing for the challenges that children bring to a relationship. It's a fun, and often eye-opening experience. Couples without children may decide that the time is right to start a family or they may decide it's best to wait a bit. While empty nest parents may just find out that they enjoy the peace and quiet of their home more than they realized.

Hide From the World

Think of your home as a deserted island for the weekend. No television, no telephones, and no company, just the two of you enjoying one another. Spend the time talking, dancing, playing board games and placing your full attention on one another. You'll feel more connected and you'll create a stronger bond.

The above are a few fun, unique ways to break out of a rut. Couples should never stop looking for ways to keep things fresh and fun. You don't have to do things every day, or even every week, but try to aim to do something each month. Any time that you spend working on your relationship is time well spent.

Once you begin putting in the time and effort, you'll see how rewarding it can be. These activities will become something that you both look forward to. Pick something from the list above, or come up with something on your own and get started. You'll be on your way to building a better and more loving relationship.
