In 1903, Schwab went to Bethlehem Steel as president.

That day, while walking through the blast furnace shop, he saw the blast furnace manager, Avery, dozing with a fan that seemed to be shaking.

Schwab said, "This is work time, you are in charge, just dozing can not ah!" The soft words were a reminder, not a criticism. But Ivey shot back: "You set such a high production target is reasonable? Employees can't reach it even if they try hard, they can only grind away!"

"If the whole company is grinding, where will the efficiency go?" Schwab said.

"You're just luckier than I am, and I would never do that if I got a good card." When Schwab heard that, he really wanted to beat him up. It turns out that Schwab 18 years old in the Carnegie steel mill as a pile driver, can only earn a dollar a day, in order to quickly accumulate capital, often to the steel mill near the large casino to try a hand, the result was a salty overnight turnaround. By the gambler to the president of the reverse, the Schwab pushed to the upper echelons of society, became a rich man, he is most taboo to talk about their own history of fortune. Ivey's unveiling did not make him furious, but instead asked patiently, "If you are, the company's efficiency this card should be how to play?"

Seeing his boss's thirsty look, Ivey sold out and said, "Just allow me to talk to each department head for 15 minutes." Schwab readily agreed.

Three months later, the company's efficiency increased dramatically and sales soared. Schwab stuck with the method, and in five years the company earned hundreds of millions of dollars more and became the world's largest independent steel producer.

In fact, Ivey just to each department head raised the same request: every day before leaving the office, list the next day must do six things, in order of priority. After doing one crossed out one. Which piece is not completed, write to the next day's list, which is often mentioned in management "time management list".

When Schwab sent a check for $700,000 to Ivey, many people were very surprised, but Schwab said: "His advice is worth more than that."

Don't see others' criticism as hostile and hurtful, in other people's critical eyes and mean words, calm and wise people are more able to see and find their own bias, open-minded advice, so as to embark on the road to success.
