It can be easy to put pressure on yourself to make Valentine's Day extra-special with a grand gesture or big present, but we're here to remind you that the most important Valentine's Day gift is time spent together.

To save you time, money and effort, here are seven V-Day activities that don't require much pre-planning. As an added bonus, they're all heart-healthy so you can feel extra good about planning for February 14th.

1. Go on a hike

Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse to go on a long hike with your sweetie, rather than doing something indoors all cozied up. Strolling through nature is fun and romantic, but it's also great exercise - just be sure to avoid super-terrain-heavy areas where falls are more likely. Also, since you're already out in nature, take the chance to get outside together even more by stargazing, playing games or simply talking about your day.

2. Have a picnic

Who doesn't love picnics? They're easy to plan, they don't require too many supplies and they let you get close to nature... all the while being perfectly romantic. Find a pretty spot in your local park or arboretum, and spend the day together as you lounge about and take in the ambiance. The picnic can be both your main activity and your meal; why not make it a potluck? That way you'll already have yummy food to chow down on, and it's one less thing for you to plan or buy.

3. Have a brunch date

If you're both early risers, have an extra-spicy cup of coffee before hitting the town for breakfast at one of your favorite cafés or restaurants. Once you've had your fill of pancakes or waffles, stroll around downtown to window shop and see what's new in your city.

For an extra treat, stop for some chocolates or ice cream along the way.

4. Hit the beach at sunset

The sun set is an amazing sight to behold... and it's even more spectacular when you're enjoying it with your beau by your side. Pack a picnic dinner (or pick up something from your favorite local restaurant) and head to the beach for a romantic evening as you watch the sun go down. This is especially fun if you're lucky enough to live near an ocean or big lake, but even if you don't have those options, there are plenty of sunny spots to make like bunnies and bask in each other's presence.

5. Go to a winter festival

Brave the cold and head to your favorite festival! Whether it's for food, music or crafts, you can find a local festival celebrating just about anything - and that means fun for you both. Don't forget to bring mittens and scarves... and maybe even an extra flannel shirt for your S.O., because it's always nicer to cuddle up together when you're both bundled up against the brisk weather.

6. Walk in the rain

It may not be warm, but rain does something magical - especially if you're snuggled under an umbrella with your Valentine. The air is fresh and crisp, the scenery is beautiful (even if it's all grey) and everyone's got the day off, making the whole city your playground.

7. Have a movie marathon

Instead of going out for dinner or hitting up a show, grab your favorite DVDs and cuddle up on the couch to watch your own private movie theater. Just keep in mind that you don't want to completely avoid Valentine's Day traditions; after all, nothing says romance like a heart-shaped box of chocolates or flowers.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, have a memorable Valentine's Day.
