Winter comes with higher gas and electricity bills due to the need to heat the house, and the need to have a comfortable temperature in the house causes many to use the heating plant since October and to open it even in March or April.

Thus, the costs become quite high during the cold season.

However, there are several ways you can keep your home warm for longer while reducing costs, which means more money is left for cosmetics and children's toys.

Also, less consumption means less pollution for the environment. So, follow these tips and enjoy the benefits.

1. Use a thermostat

A thermostat helps you keep a certain temperature constant in the house. Thus, you do not consume more than you need and you enjoy the desired thermal comfort. In addition, you will not waste time adjusting the temperature and you will be more relaxed.

When choosing a thermostat, it is good to take into account the type of central heating system you have, if you have a boiler or another brand, so that that thermostat is compatible.

There are also some universal models, but it is best to inform yourself well in advance and choose the right product.

2. Curtains can be helpful

The curtains will play a role in two ways. During the day, when there is a little sun, set them aside so that the sun enters through the window and warms the room. Even if it is cold outside, the sun's rays can warm the interiors, but also the souls. As soon as it gets dark, draw the curtains, as they will act as a barrier against the cold.

The wall with windows is often colder than other walls, because it has direct contact with the outside, especially if it does not have good insulation. Therefore, the curtains can be useful in maintaining an optimal temperature in the room.

3. Heat recovery

This is a device that helps to save the thermal energy used for heating. Its role is to recover heat in heated spaces.

Beyond this function, the device can filter the air and ensure good ventilation for indoor spaces.

The heat recuperator introduces fresh air from inside the house and evacuates the "used" air that contains more carbon dioxide.

Thus, the air is filtered and helps to dehumidify or humidify, as needed. The device also helps prevent mold from forming, providing a healthy climate for you and your family.

4. Carpets have both a thermal and a decorative role

Choose rugs to put on the floor. They help a lot from a thermal point of view.

The cold in the floor does not pass as easily as when it is discovered. In addition, if you have small children, it is good for them to be able to sit on a carpet or a fluffy rug when playing on the floor. You protect them from the cold and they will stay more comfortable.

Carpets also have a decorative role. They will add color and style to your home, so choose the models you want and you will see how the look of the rooms changes.

In the bathroom, you can use special non-slip mats, which will also help you avoid contact with the cold surface of the tiles.

5. Insulation of the house

Although it involves a larger financial investment, the insulation of the house later provides you with more heat in the house and lower bills for energy consumption.

This insulation can be made with several materials, such as glass mineral wool, balsamic mineral wool, cellulose, heat-insulating plaster, vacuum-insulated boards, expanded or extruded polystyrene, reflective foil with multiple layers of aluminum or even bricks.

Of course, you don't have to know their properties. Turn to a construction specialist or a wall insulation company. What you need to know, however, is that this insulation should be done during the summer, when the walls are dry and there is no risk of dampness.

6. Heat pump

If you live at home, you can opt for a heat pump. It can extract heat from the ground, which has a relatively constant temperature of 10–12 degrees Celsius. The pump is also useful during the summer, as it can cool the house on the same operating principle.

A heat pump picks up energy in two ways: through groundwater, called a geothermal heat pump, or through the air, which is an aerothermal heat pump. It is useful for both home heating and water heating.

Use the six tips above and you will enjoy more warmth in your home during the cold season, but also more money for holiday gifts.
