6 Simple Acts to Make the World a Better Place

I will never forget the call.

It was 1989 and, like many college students, I was spending my winter vacation in Florida looking for the sun. Getting off the plane and being greeted by a blast of warm air was the best. Upon entering the airport, I had the added benefit of being greeted by my grandparents, who lived in North Miami Beach.

Standing by the pool, walking with them, or eating out, this experience was a great way to relax after a difficult time of the finals.

Although the eldest of six children came with the responsibilities of his older brother, my health was good and my anxiety was low.

It was a warm Wednesday afternoon in January, and my grandparents and I were sitting by the lake in the morning. We were just returning when we received a call that would change my life forever: My mother suffered a brain aneurysm.

He was only forty-four years old. How is this possible? Just yesterday we talked, she laughed, and now, within forty-eight hours, she had passed away, leaving her parents, husband, and six children, aged eight to twenty-one, to mourn her loss.

My world - our world - turned upside down for a second.

We don’t like to think about it, but the fact is that our lives can change in an instant, as I found it powerful at the time. Reading this now is not a guarantee that you will be here tomorrow. The question is whether we are doing all we can today or the time left. No one in the death bed is asking for more money; they asked for another explanation.

In the words of Bob Marley, "Live for yourself and live for nothing, live for others and live for yourself."

Our actions affect others. “What will be your inheritance?” it is a question for all of us to ponder. It is an opportunity to reflect on past and present actions and to pledge a positive change that will affect not only us and our present families but also future generations. The seeds, whether good or bad, that we plant today can make a big difference.

It is important to understand that no matter what is happening in the world today, the first place to look is within us. We should ask the following questions daily:

1. What did I do today to raise someone else?

2. Could I have done more, given more, or listened more to those around me?

Take a quiet hour and dig deep into yourself. Who are you? Who do you want to be? If you could only speak once, what would you say? Why not say it now?

When I wake up in the morning, I learn a prayer not only in my belief in supernatural powers but in knowing that a new day is given new opportunities to have an eternal impact unlike yesterday or tomorrow. This knowledge inspires me to take this day and look for opportunities to show kindness in every encounter, because I will never go through this again.

If you want to create a life that fulfills your purpose and leaves the world a better place, if you want to create a legacy, here are some suggestions.

1. Be a generous host.

If you walk into your local coffee shop or go to work, what can you do to make someone’s date? Pay for coffee to the person standing behind you? Smile and keep an eye on the passerby? Maybe someone had a hard day and by letting him know, he made an impact on their lives. There is no random encounter but it is an opportunity to spread the light.

2. Make bold decisions.

We make big and small decisions every day, and some are easier than others. We often make decisions more easily. For example, we may not be able to help the person who needs it because we think we are too busy, or we may not be able to continue the work that is making a good difference because it seems too difficult. Choosing courage means that we choose accordingly. What should you do?

In hindsight, most people are sorry for what they did not do. When we die, we will not be judged on the basis of someone else's health but on our own strength. Have we done our best with the hand that was held in our hand?

Wake up every morning and ask yourself, "What can I do today without a comfortable place to live boldly and make a difference?" No one wants to be remembered for playing a safe life but for doing the right thing.

3. Hold meditation moments.

Meditate daily on your personality. Use prayers or poems or your journal articles to think about who you are, your relationships and what you have done to make an impact. This gives you a chance to think about what you did well, and what you need to work on.

4. Finding faith.

The sources of our faith can be in the higher power, within us, or in friends or spouses who believe in us more than believe in us so that we can do our best and give our best to the world. We need the strength they give us to be visible every day and make a positive impact, because life can be difficult at times. Who are your happinesses? Who can you trust to support you in all your endeavors and to encourage you when you are feeling down?

5. Live the inspiration.

Inspired life comes from realizing that life can change in an instant. Don't expect big losses to wake you up from your blessings. Take things in stride and try not focus too much on the problem. In the era of COVID in particular, we cannot take even a single breath.

Start a Thanksgiving magazine that lists new blessings every day. When we live happily, we release positive energy, which elevates people in our lives and creates a lot of hope and hope in our families, communities and the world.

6. Find your renewable energy.

Discover your skills and abilities, and what makes you smile. Your life is a hidden gift with unlimited power. When do you feel most alive? Spending your time and energy on areas in your life.
