Dear remote workers worldwide, please keep your health in check!

Due to the nature of our job, most of us are always stationary at our workstation. And you know we tend to munch away those snacks until the bag is empty.

It's a great feeling knowing that we are far away from those boring old 9 to 5 jobs in cubicles. Those jobs somehow always suck the life out of us. With remote jobs, however, we dress how we like, sit how we like, eat whenever we like. Most importantly, no annoying co-workers!

Nevertheless, as wonderful as it sounds, remote jobs do have a drawback when it comes to a healthy and active lifestyle. Here are a few tips anyone can implement right away to resolve this.

1. Get regular exercise

A sedentary lifestyle is a risk factor for many health problems, including obesity. Exercising for just 30 minutes a day can help reduce your risk of developing any kind of diseases.

Exercises include going for a run, or working out at home. Get up and move around every hour or so. A few push ups will get your blood pumping in no time. Take short breaks throughout the day to do some light stretching or yoga such as Mountain Pose, Child's Pose, Cat/Cow Pose, Downward-Facing Dog.

Also, try to make time for a short walk outside every day, even if it’s just around the block. A short session out in nature would help your mood too.

2. Eat a healthy diet

Keep healthy snacks on hand to avoid the temptation to indulge in unhealthy junk food. Baby carrots are great! Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help reduce your risk of developing diseases.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Coconut water is a tasty alternative with all needed electrolytes. To ensure consistency, plan out the diet and stock it up, as it will help form a habit.

3. Get adequate sleep

Getting enough sleep is essential for your overall health and well-being. Research shows that people who don’t get enough sleep are at higher risk for type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Invest in good sheets and pillows; you will not regret it. Get a night lamp with warm light to set the mood. Drink warm milk or green tea before bed to calm you down. Try not to use any electronic devices one hour before bedtime.

4. Prepare a comfortable workstation.

Set up a makeshift home office that allows you to move around and change positions throughout the day. Invest in a good-quality ergonomic office chair and set up your workstation to promote good posture.

Make sure there is enough space in the room for quick walks and stretches. It will be helpful whenever you get sleepy from staring at the monitor.

5. Meditate

Meditation have been recognized and practiced by most world leaders for good reasons. There are many benefits to meditation, some of which include reducing stress and anxiety, improving sleep, and increasing focus and concentration.

To get started with meditation, find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. A yoga mat works fine. Close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Inhale and exhale slowly and evenly, letting your mind focus on the rise and fall of your chest. If your mind wanders, gently redirect it back to your breath. This will take some time to get used to. It is advised to do it away from any distracting noise sources.

Conclusion

I hope these simple but important tips help you lead a healthy and productive remote working lifestyle. It will definitely pay you in the long run.

Cheers!
