5 Gift Ideas Every Nurse Would Love for Nurses Week

As we exit some rough pandemic waters, one thing that remains constant is the week we celebrate nurses

Yep. Nurses Week 2022 is upon us, and if you've always wondered what your favorite nurse likes and wants, you're in the right place.

While Nurses Week is always a special time to appreciate, thank, and recognize all that travel nurses and hospital staff nurses do for us, nurses these past couple of years deserve A LOT MORE appreciation than they have in the past.

But the questions remain. How do we give our thanks and appreciation authentically? What do nurses really want for their special week?

While there is no one size fits all for your fav RN, there certainly are a few things we think he (or she) will enjoy. Some of these are things you can physically give, and some are things you can do.

So without further ado...

Help them pre-pack meals

This is one of my personal favorites because every nurse eats a real on shift.

Sometimes two, if we're being honest. Add to it that it's hard to pre-make food in advance and even more challenging to shop, and we have ourselves a gift.

But how do you discern between different diets and maybe even allergies?

Well, a gift card to a meal delivery service is how. Something I personally loved was that one time my Nurses Week gift was a $50 gift card to a local meal prep and delivery service.

I went online, selected my meals, and voila! They were delivered right to my door! Fresh and ready to eat.

Help them get stuff done

Right up there with food is getting stuff done.

No time to shop? Less time to go to the post office or clothes shopping? We hear ya. So how about helping your RN get stuff done by running errands for them!

Go pick up dry cleaning. Head to the grocery store for them. Even something as simple as taking their car for a wash and vacuum is super helpful.

The point is to take a load off them and help them get stuff done this week.

Whether she is a travel nurse or a staff nurse, they will certainly be glad for the time you helped them save.

Be kind

This is something we can all do.

Be kind. Be patient. Show respect and, by all means, try to be understanding.

A nurse's shift is long and sometimes mentally draining. The things an RN does is often difficult for most folks to grasp, so sometimes a kind word, even a hug, goers a very long way.

We may make their tasks easier and/or more pleasurable by treating them with patience, kindness, respect, and compassion.

Thanking someone for their services can go a long way in making a nurse's day. It might even be a stepping stone to persuade them to keep going when their body, mind, and spirit urge them to give up.

Bring a massage to the unit

This is a winner, hands down.

Nurses are on their feet most of the day, running and gunning. So bringing a massage professional to spend a few hours on the unity will be an unforgettable experience.

Imagine having a pro show up and offer fifteen-minute shoulder rubs and upper back massages to your hard-working crew. Not only would it be relaxing, but it's something so unique that they'd never forget it.

Just make sure everyone gets a good massage, take turns, and I'd even offer that the therapist comes in more than one day so that your entire staff can get some "hands-on" relaxation.

Anything coffee or tea-related

This one is pretty self-explanatory.

RNs thrive on coffee. Well, at least most do. And for those who don't, usually, tea or some other coffee shop beverage is to their liking.

That being said, a simple gift card to a local coffee shop is always a winner.

If there's one thing I know about travel nurses and staff RNs, it's that caffeine keeps us going. We love, absolutely LOVE, our coffee!

When nurses are exhausted, it helps them keep going throughout the long hours, early mornings, and late nights. It comforts them when they need a boost.

The final word

As you can see, you can do many different things to show your appreciation for the nurses in your life.

There is something for everyone, from pre-packing meals and running errands to being kind and bringing a massage therapist onto the unit. No matter what you choose to do, make sure that it comes from the heart.

After all, that's what nursing is all about.

For all you readers who are travel nurses or staff nurses, did we nail it with some of these? Are we missing some? What else would a hard-working nurse want for nurses' week?
