Marriage Is Not A Job But It Takes Work

When I first got married to the love of my life, everything was just sweet as a peach. No arguments or anything serious occurred for a long while. Five years into our marriage we had become business partners, and had a beautiful family together. Not to mention chemistry that was through the roof since day one.

Then one day, something changed. There was a breakdown in communication. My husband was in a position of wanting to provide more as the head of the household to support our family, and live a lot less like-average, and more than comfortably. So we decided to move to another state, and as soon as we did it was like magic. He found an amazing job with outstanding pay that was substantially higher than what he'd imagined to find on such short notice. Our business expanded, and we found the perfect location. We found a beautiful house to live in while we searched to buy our very first home. The kids were flourishing in great schools, and the love grew stronger as we crossed those hurdles that couldn't break our undeniable bond.

Independence vs Being Dependent

Believe it or not, independence is rated ‘extremely important’ in a marriage, and for very good reason.

When we are dependent on our significant other, it weakens our resolve and ability to move forward as free thinkers, and forces us to rely on ourselves to navigate through things without being codependent on someone else.

In order to be happy in a relationship, we must be happy first. That is, in fact, the key to a successful relationship.

With that being said, life partners must continue to take out time for themselves, enjoy their personal hobbies, and in general, spend some time apart.

Not only does absence make it difficult for a moment, but it also makes the heart grow fonder. In the time we spend alone, we are able to re-establish our sense of self, reunite with our spiritual side, and check in with the progress of our personal preferences, achievements, and goals outside of our partner. This holds us accountable for taking care of our endeavors.

When we possess the ability to maintain our independent sense of self, we will always have something to discuss at the dinner table, and we are forever stronger, healthier, and more attractive to our life partners.
