Adult friendships are often complicated because people have different levels of maturity, different life experiences, and different perspectives.

It can be difficult to find common ground, and it can be easy to get caught up in petty arguments.

However, adult friendships can also be incredibly rewarding. They can provide support, laughter, and a shoulder to cry on.

Being an only child gave me a slight advantage in that it allowed me to be creative. I learned the art of conversation and cultivating new friendships.

Whenever I moved to a new neighborhood, I would actively seek friends as a need for social nourishment.

Though I was younger, the principles are simple and can be applied at practically any age.

Here's my list of 11 great ways to make friends as an adult:

1. Try New Activities

One of the best ways to make friends as an adult is to step out of your comfort zone and try new activities.

This can help you meet new people who share your interests and make friends in the process.

Additionally, trying new things can help you expand your social circle and make new friends that you wouldn't have otherwise.

So, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new today!

2. Meet Your Friends’ Friend

Meeting Your Friends' Friend will help you get to know more people in your social circle.

You'll be able to learn about their interests and get to know them better.

You may even find that you have things in common with them!

Spending time with them will help you build deeper relationships with your friends.

3. Make Conversations with People in Your Neighborhood

As an adult, it can feel difficult to make friends. However, one easy way to meet people and strike up conversations is by simply talking to your neighbors.

Getting to know the people who live near you can help create a sense of community and make your life more enjoyable.

Moreover, you never know when you might need a helping hand from a neighbor. The Law of Reciprocity is in effect here.

Remember that it's always good to have a friendly relationship with the people who live around you.

The cool thing is this can happen organically just by walking around your neighborhood.

4. Join Groups with Mutual Interests

Making friends as an adult can be made easier by joining groups that share your interests.

This way, you can meet people who share your hobbies and interests, and who you can connect with on a deeper level.

Additionally, joining groups can help you meet people who live near you and who you can easily connect with on a regular basis.

I did this when I used to live in Pasadena California.

One day, while in a bout of boredom, I looked up a meditation seminar on the meetup app.

This led me to making friends with nearby monks in the area, and started a whole new journey of mindfulness and meditation.

You never know what you may find when you decide to “meetup”.

5. Socialize with Co-worker outside of Work

One of the best ways to make friends as an adult is to make plans with your co-workers outside of work.

This can be anything from grabbing coffee or lunch together, to going out shopping after work, or even just planning to walk to work together.

By making plans with your co-workers, you're showing them that you're interested in getting to know them better, and that you value their friendship.

Plus, it's a great way to build relationships and network within your company.

6. Join FB groups to Meet Like-Minded people

If you're looking to meet new friends as an adult, joining Facebook groups can be a great way to connect with like-minded people.

Whether you're interested in a particular hobby or activity, or you're just looking to expand your social circle, there's likely a Facebook group out there for you.

Once you've joined a few groups, you can start participating in discussions, attending events, and getting to know other members.

Who knows, you might just make some great friends in the process!

Spending time with people who share your interests and who you can have fun with is a great way to make friends.

And, of course, if you're on holiday, you're bound to have a good time!

8. Attend Networking Events

You may have moved to a new city, or your old friends may have all settled down and started families.

Despite this, if you're looking to make some new friends, attending professional networking events is a great way to do it.

At networking events, you'll meet people with similar interests and backgrounds to your own.

You can bond over your shared love of your industry, or your shared struggles in finding success.

These events provide a great opportunity to make new friends and expand your professional network.

Plus, the energy in these rooms is usually high vibing which raises your social meter and sense of well-being.

9. Strike a conversation with a fellow parent at your kids school

Striking up a conversation with a fellow parent at your kids' school is a great way to make friends as an adult.

You can bond over your shared love of your children and their shared experiences at school.

You can also talk about your own experiences as parents and get advice and support from each other.

The compatibility ratio of your relationship is quite high in this situation as both of you are parents and almost go through the same type of problems.

So, you have so many things to talk about which makes it easier to build a bond.

10. Socialize with other Dog owners at Dog - Parks

Dog owners are some of the most social people you will ever meet.

They are always out and about with their furry friends, and they love to meet new people.

If you are looking to make friends as an adult, socializing with other dog owners is a great way to do it.

You can meet new people at the dog park, on walks, or even just out and about running errands.

Spending time socializing with other dog owners will help you get to know them better and build a strong friendship.

You may even find that you have more in common with them than you thought.

Get to know your fellow dog owners and you will quickly make some great friends.

11. Put Yourself Out there When you travel

You may not have many friends in your new city or country, and you may not know anyone at your destination.

Still, putting yourself out there and meeting new people can be a great way to make friends as an adult.

There are a few things you can do to meet new people when you travel:

First, try to meet people at your hotel or hostel.

Talk to the staff and other guests, and see if anyone is interested in hanging out.

Since I play the flute, I have sometimes walked around my living space practicing, and this will spontaneously strike up conversations.

Whole jam sessions have been started just by doing this.

Second, go out and explore your destination.

Talk to people you meet along the way, and see if you can find a group or tour to join.

Finally, be open and friendly. Smile and strike up conversations with people you meet, and you’ll be sure to make some new friends.

Thanks for reading! I trust this was a little education on how easy it can be to enjoy new friends in your environment.

Being an adult can come with pressure, but realize making friends is more than possible.
