Vaudeville Ghosts The Cresco Theater and Opera House opened its doors in Cresco in 1915 as the Cresco Opera House. Throughout the years a number of actors and entertainers have performed on its stage. Both contemporary films and live performances have taken place here. It has been taken over by numerous ghosts and unusual paranormal activity. On stage people have seen the ghostly apparitions of vaudeville performers still doing what they did best. When it’s dark, a lone ghost sits in the theater and disappears if anyone attempts to get close. In the empty theater, people have heard strange noises and voices and experienced electrical disruptions.

My Nightmare.
Night came soft, and i closed my eyes. I did not know i was inside a dream. I stood on a hill with my younger brother. Below us was a quiet river, dark and deep. Then i saw her. A light-skinned woman stood by the river bank. Her long dark hair fell like night on her body. She wore a long red skirt filled with tiny shining things. Her chest was bare, but she did not look evil. She looked calm… too calm. She kept gathering white breakable plates, placing them beside the river one after another. But her eyes were watching me. She acted like she was busy, yet i felt her calling me without words. Slowly, something touched my body. A strange power. Like small electric shocks running through my skin. My legs became weak. My heart shook inside me. She moved closer in spirit, trying to pull me near. But i resisted. Then my younger brother threw a catholic crucifix to me, i caught it tightly in my hand. At once, the woman stopped. The river became cold. The wind cried loudly. Then i woke up. But even after waking, the strange electric feeling was still inside my body. And till today, i still remember the woman by the river.

There are 100 stone steps on a walkway leading up a hill. The legend says that as you walk up the steps, you should count the steps out loud, and this should be done in the night. When you reach the top, an apparition appears and shows you a horrible vision of how you will die. Walking back down the path, again count each step. The prophecy will be fulfilled if you reach the bottom and your returning step count differs from the initial count. You’re safe if the number of steps varies.
