The Haunted House Challenge
The blue waters reflected the moonlight as the boat glided across the lake. The rain had stopped early. Jay drove calmly toward the infamous Chandelier Island. The desolate mansion stood apart; its shadows loomed in the distance, just as the legends stated. The old dock with only fragments of withered wood still rising barely above the water. Along the ruins, an old sunken boat marked with the greatness of its past. Once, it was the jewel of early yachts, flaunted by William Chandelier himself. Now, it lay rotten at the dock. Jay was ready for this adventure, even though there had been reports of an uneventful night. He drove to the back section where a stone platform, cracked and faded, remained. Cassie looked frail on the abandoned island. The sign stated "No Trespassing," with another message below: "I Would Not If I Were You." Jay grabbed the rope and tied off the boat to the only remaining pole. Cassie glanced at Jay, worried. He just smiled.

The Zodiac Killer: America’s Most Theatrical Monster - How One Man Terrorized California, Taunted the World, and Vanished Into Legend
Have you ever been on a quiet date, parked somewhere secluded, and felt that sudden uneasy prickle on the back of your neck? Like someone, somewhere in the shadows, is watching you? For most of us, it’s just paranoia. But for a handful of young people in Northern California at the end of the 1960s, that feeling was brutally, fatally real.

Beneath the White Silence
The drilling camp had been a scar on the Ross Ice Shelf for eleven days when Sara first noticed the door. The door had always been there, a rusted pressure-seal between the sleeping quarters and the equipment bay of Station Voronoi, a relic of the Soviet era repurposed by the Norwegian geological survey three seasons prior. What she noticed was that it stood open. Only slightly. Perhaps two inches. A gap no wider than a man's knuckle.

Rust and Salt. Content Warning.
Rain battered the steel grated floor. Elias gripped the heavy wrench. The rusted bolts on the primary pressure valve refused to budge even a fraction of an inch. He wiped a mixture of sweat and grease from his forehead using the back of his sodden glove. The storm had intensified over the past hour. Swells slammed into the concrete pillars of the rig with enough force to vibrate up through the deck into the soles of his boots. He threw his entire body weight against the wrench. The bolt finally gave way with a loud metallic screech.

Monkey Paws
I didn’t want to go to Cambodia. Humidity is my enemy, and the jungle has big bugs, snakes, and mean macaques. If it were a mild climate, I’d enjoy the wildlife, but I hate slogging through tall grass with a soaked, smelly back. I can’t call it perspiration; it’s just funk, thick and sour.
