The Devil is in the detail
Im so close to something, it’s like I can see it, taste it. But Goddamn it, it’s so far away. If I just had the money to get myself ahead, I could be free. These are all the thoughts that Tom kept swirling in his head while he was walking to his less than accommodating job. Tom spent most of his life dreaming and wishing for something major to happen. It never does. He just keeps wishing and dreaming, and losing hope, each waking moment. This particular morning he was running late and decided to catch the bus rather than walk. Why risk losing a shitty paying job that was keeping him from living on the street? There’s something both mesmerizing and trauma inducing about riding the bus. The mesmerizing part was the people that you encounter on public transportation. The trauma inducing part was the people that you encounter on public transportation. Tom, filled with anxiety, finds a seat, and plops down with so much force. There’s a squish sound. The seat is wet, most likely urine from either a child or a grown man child. He looks under the seat and yells “fuck my life not today”. While looking down he notices a book, it’s covered in the foreign liquid but for some reason Tom is drawn to it.

If This, Then That: Fascinating Horror and Associated Channels
Media consumption is an exercise in associations. When you finish watching a new movie or show, the memories you formed follow you to the next piece of media you consume. (Accurately speaking, the process doesn't stop; it's the next piece, and the next, and the next). The more media you consume, the bigger this web of impressions and experiences becomes. The bigger the web becomes, the more connections you're able to propagate. You start to find conceptual similarities between the media pieces that attract you, and as time progresses, your ability to communicate these similarities improves. This ability is foundational to the art of creating an effective, associative media recommendation: the art of 'if this, then that.' In this essay, it's precisely what I hope to do. My media choice is a lesser-known YouTube series whose creator goes by the username, 'Fascinating Horror.' Henceforth, I will use his username to refer directly to the series.

Quarantine 2008
Spoiler alert: I will be talking about what happens in the film and how it ends. With so many films to choose from, If there is one film that I feel left me scared for days in October 2008, it would have to be the film Quarantine. It is an American found footage horror film directed and co-written by John Erick Dowdle. The film was a remake of the Spanish film REC which came out in 2007. (Which let me tell you, was just as scary, but some-what funny because hearing the actors yelling and screaming profanity in Spanish was funny. English is my first language.) But let’s get back to talking about the film Quarantine 2008.
