fiction
Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
Haunting
“I’m telling you, horror movies just aren’t scary anymore!” I say, giggling as we walk in through the door. “Come on, you can’t tell me that there weren’t a couple jump scares in there that got you.” My friend Lizzy argues. “I know for a fact I felt you jump.”

It Was a Bad Day for a Bad Kid
Richard Durn was a bad kid; he always had been. He was the third child out of four: two older brothers and a baby sister. His siblings were of an easy nature, sweet children who were about a year apart from each other. But, as his own family often said, when Richard was born the powers that be not only broke the mold, they burned it and buried it. The kid was born rotten.

Don't Fear the Reaper
Various shades of green and brown raced by as her blonde hair swayed back and forth, her hazel eyes focused ahead on the path. A deep howl filled the silence and then suddenly – it was quiet. She stood alone, heart racing and glanced around. “Boo!” He jumped up behind her.

Eggs
The rain poured down outside. April showers drenched the outside world, blessing the fertile earth. The drops pounded against the cheap tile roof. The house was dark throughout. A single solitary wall lamp was lit in the kitchen. In the living room, which the kitchen opened into, sat a middle-aged woman in a big, brown, leather chair that had a small tear on the back.

Tick-Tock Drip-Drop
It was the day before Halloween and I was stuck working until 10:00 pm. Though no one ever comes in after 9:00, since it is just a costume store. I was getting ready to clean up the place and close up, when this guy in his mid twenties came running in the store and ask if we were still open. I looked at him and then looked over to the clock, and said "Yes, we are still open for another 10 minutes. Is there anything I can help you with sir?"

Madmen in the Dark
When she snuck out of the house tonight to meet him, she was all adrenaline. Now, waiting under the street lamp, she felt the fear she wished would have befallen her earlier. The street was so dark outside the circle of light — her protection. It is hard to believe that with all the wits adults claimed she had, she would ever be seen standing alone on this quiet empty street so late at night. A shiver ran through her — in her hyper rush to leave, she did not think about the sun stealing its warmth with its travels. And to make it worse… he was late. How long was she supposed to wait for him before she went tail-tucked back home? Was any guy worth this? Even Paul? She closed her eyes and imagined his face. Such perfect blue eyes and the sharp curve of his jaw… She could stay a little while longer perhaps. If his face couldn’t convince her, the thought of making the walk back to her apartment alone would.

The Noise
It was a very rain night in October. A little lad by the name of Alvy had been sitting at the front window on a couch, mesmerized by the the sound of the rain hitting the pavement. "We are headed out soon," yelled Alvy's mother from the top of the stairs. Alvy's parents had a meeting to go to regarding the job that Alvy's dad had just acquired from a man online. It seemed a little weird getting a job from online but if it paid the bills then it was worth something.

The Crawl Space
“Look, I’m not gonna pay a couple of hundred bucks for some guy to come out here and tell us that he can’t do anything or try to charge a couple grand to fix it. We just bought this house.” Nick and Amy were standing in their kitchen. Nick was leaning against the counter next to the sink. Amy was standing across from him, looking down at the floor just in front of the sink.

Delirious
Chapter One: The Silhouette My name is Jay Mauser. Most of you probably don’t know who I am, and some probably think I’m dead. The truth is, I’m alive bright as day, but my brother isn’t. I’ve been off the radar for ten years, unwillingly imprisoned by an institution for claiming that my family has been murdered by a demon.

The Bible of Worms
It's time to go back to church. September 12th I was always a bit uncertain in my life devoted to the The Good Book. My pa was too, apparently. It's been a month since Pa passed away and I have been reading through his journal. Turns out he was only pushed to read the Bible because Grandpa didn’t want him growing up illiterate. But Pa always used to complain that no matter how much he bellowed, his sermons only drew half the crowd of Grandpa's. And, frankly, if that is the case, I feel much shame. As my own flock is not but a of third my father's. What could work the town of Lowbog to the righteous God-fearing people they once were?
