Halloween: Origins and Traditions
Halloween in the UK The commercialisation of Halloween in the UK has happened in recent years. Certainly, it was never as popular as it is now, and it seems that retailers want to cash in on what has become an international celebration. Shops are full of mass-produced plastic goodies such as witches’ hats, bats, monster masks, giant spiders, face paints in so many colours… and much, much more. It is a stark difference from my 1980’s and 1990’s childhood where most British families frowned upon “Trick or Treating”. My family never missed an opportunity for a chance to dress up as a ghost or ghoul, so we were early adopters of this modern trend that had crossed the Atlantic. We would be taken out in the car to visit elderly friends and relatives, in exchange for a few sweets. It was something that my brother, my cousins, and I would look forward to and plan for what seemed like weeks. I did not realise how out-of-the-ordinary we were until I excitedly mentioned Halloween plans to a school friend, and I got admonished for lowering myself to the status of a common beggar. The word “evil” was also mentioned. I never spoke about Halloween at school again, and I even in adulthood, I have never discussed my path into Witchcraft with any of my childhood friends. Sometimes I wonder whether it is the great unspoken, that I have been a witch for 25 years, or whether they truly just don’t’ know.

The Blair Witch Project (1999)
In this article, we will be looking at 2019’s book “1001 Movies to See Before You Die” and going through each film in a random order that I have chosen. We will be looking at what constitutes this film to be on the list and whether I think this film deserves to be here at all. I want to make perfectly clear that I won’t be revealing details from this book such as analyses by film reporters who have written about the film in question, so if you want the book itself you’ll have to buy it. But I will be covering the book’s suggestions on which films should be your top priority. I wouldn’t doubt for a second that everyone reading this article has probably watched many of these movies anyway. But we are just here to have a bit of fun. We’re going to not just look at whether it should be on this list but we’re also going to look at why the film has such a legacy at all. Remember, this is the 2019 version of the book and so, films like “Joker” will not be featured in this book and any film that came out in 2020 (and if we get there, in 2021). The Suburban Neighbourhood Secret
Within the Greaten Suburbs lies a Secret. Jackson Hearst and his family had just moved to the Greaten Suburb Neighbourhood, moving from a loud, busy city to the quiet, empty suburban. The Hearst family consisted of Jackson, his husband Terence, their adopted twin daughters, Naomi and Talia who are 6 years old, their adopted son, Harvey who is 3 years old, and Jackson’s biological son, Orin who is 9 months old. Through surrogacy, with a donor egg and a volunteer surrogate mother, they were able to have their own son, Jackson and Terence had decided that Jackson’s genes were better, due to a hereditary condition that Terence’s family had.

Midnight Ride
The city burned, fire lighting up the night sky. Adelaide turned her head away. They would pay, whether with their lives or with grief and despair she did not care. She was close enough she could still feel the warmth of the blazes brushing her cheeks. “Let’s go, Shadow,” she whispered to her horse, nudging him with her knees. His huff could barely be heard as he obeyed, taking her further into the forest. The snapping of twigs beneath his feet echoed across the otherwise eerily silent woods. As they travelled, Adelaide thought of the events leading up to this midnight ride.

Safe (full story)
Blood. Rivers of life flowed from deep slashes on her stomach, arm, and leg merged with the snow turning it crimson as the ice froze it in place. A breeze laden with ice and petrol attacked her senses, and face. Her eyes flickered as light bounced over her body, face and around the ground. Voices spoke, the sounds were distant, muffled. Another light passed over her face then a pair of abrasive hands tenderly opened her torn blouse and removed it as another pair of cold, callous hands applied bandages.

The Addams Family - Movie Review
When it comes to the Halloween season I'm not the best when it comes to watching the typical horror movies that hit our screens around this time. This year especially, with people virtually getting together to watch the spookiest movies around, I got two friends together to watch a more light-heart movie that still embraced the spooky and macabre, this took the form of the 90s cult classic, "The Addams Family".

The Great Halloween Dissapearance
It was the night before Halloween, also known as mschief night. Many children were running the streets causeing chaos, and flinging toilet paper all over the houses of people that lived on MullBerry Lane. But one house stood out in particular. 666 MullBerry Lane is the house that has had multiple dissappearances over many years. Each time the children would throw toilet paper at this strange house, and walk down the street, they would notice on their return back up the street that this spooky house now has not one bit of toilet paper on it. Where could it have gone they were wondering, when out of nowhere the front door of the house burst open and out came old man Withersnapper. He screamed at the kids "Keep your toilet paper away from my house or you will be met with 1000 ghosts and ghouls." Oh how right he was. The children only took this as a simple threat, as they thought that he could not summon ghosts and ghouls at his own will and boy were they wrong.

CHAPTER TWELVE: THE TAKEOVER Nanoq’s Residence – Barrow, Alaska - 2011 The home was dark and still. Fish and Game agent Carl Nanoq, the assumed nemesis of Sade, approached his front door exhausted from a long day of navigating the frozen northern territory. He had been on duty since early the day before and he anticipated a joyful reunion with his warm bed. As he took each step towards his door, he became more suspicious because his dogs were not barking to herald him home. This unusual silence brought Nanoq to stillness with one last crunch of snow beneath the heavy soles of his boots. He held his breath waiting to pick up a sound that would explain the mystery that resided in his home, or that would somehow justify the silence, but no sounds fell on his ears.
