In The Woods, Awoken
"What?" I said, my voice croaky from dehydration, slowly sitting up and opening my eyes, I put my hand to my head as it pounded and looked down at what I was sat on. A blanket, thick and heavy, deep blue velvet and underneath, dirt- soil with dry autumn leaves strewn upon it, I was outside. As I looked around me, I could see trees, shrubs and plants turning from brilliant summer colours to cosy, subtle autumn browns, reds and oranges; I was warm and, more urgently, more importantly, I was hungry. Looking down at the ground around me, I found a couple of things that weren't mine, beside me was a large sheet of tarp and a backpack, inspecting it, I found a large empty water bottle, a flashlight- luckily it was a working one, and a small pocketknife. In front of me a slowly burning bonfire, smouldering as it was slowly dissipating, there was something hung above it, tied between two trees either side of the bonfire. I gently pushed myself onto my feet, wobbling slightly with light-headedness and thirst, I found that I could reach whatever was hanging above me, so I pulled it down. It was fairly weighted and solid but not heavy, warm to the touch but not burning, I placed it down on the blanket before I thumped down beside it, almost as if my body was about to give up on standing. It was wrapped tight but I found a small opening and pulled at it- inside was a dish, topped with a lid, tied up with string. I pulled off the string, flipped the lid off, it landing with a small thump on the blanket and the smell of tomatoes, potatoes and herbs bellowed out of the dish. My stomach rumbled, my mouth trying to salivate, I smiled and pulled the dish up to my face, breathing the smell deeper than I've ever tried to smell food before.

Regrettable Actions
Throughout my relatively short and unsurprisingly disappointing, and therefore depressing life, which has been overrun with endless rejection, horrific abuse, childhood abandonment, neglect and a life of a hundred and one broken, empty promises, I have been physically and mentally broken and scarred, routinely beaten and left for dead far too many times before; I have, very almost, once or twice failed, but have always managed to pull myself back from the brink- the brink of institutionalisation and having my sadness taken away with medication and electricity: but I have always prided myself in being kind, caring and stopping others experiencing what I've had to go through, keeping a positive attitude towards others, and never before have I ever had to mistreat or cause damage to someone else for my own gain.

Albia Pet Store, Shelter and Veterinary Surgery
Albia Pet Store, Shelter and Veterinary Surgery has always been my favourite place to go, all of the sweet and gentle animals that were up for sale or adoption were fantastic and each one was full of character and had their own personality; I was entertained for hours each week, just spending time watching the rodents scurrying in their play cages or the birds flying around the back room, seeing the fish swimming around one another and the little houses inside their tanks, watching the lizards and other reptiles moving in different ways and, my favourite part of it all, on a Friday afternoon after school, the shelter was opened to the public and you were allowed to just stay and play with all of the bunnies, cats and dogs. Every day on my way home from school I would visit the animals at APS, I would spend two to three hours after school helping the animal care team feed and groom the animals and, when we needed it at home, buy food, treats and toys for my dogs and budgies. As a child, I had two dogs, named Spot and Patch and we had three budgies called Oskar, Griffin and Hatch.

Hybrid
“She’s beautiful!” exclaimed Hunter, to his best friend- and brother Avery, whilst they stood at the end of the aisle in front of the altar, watching the indeed beautiful Lillia gliding towards them, her smile wider than ever, Avery nodded, beaming at his bride. Lillia wore a deep red full length ball gown for her wedding dress, with black lace sleeves covering her arms delicately, slipping over the back of her hands, stopping perfectly at her fingers. Her nails were shaped and painted black with a rhinestone at the base of her middle finger, her makeup was a simple red lip and nude eyeshadow which brought out the deep blue of her eyes and her jet-black fringe framed her face perfectly, with the rest of her hair styled in an elegant braid down to her waist. Francesca reached the front of the aisle to take her place next to her best friend, as Lillia reached her soon to be husband, Francesca gently squeezed her arm, took the bouquet from her hands and placed Lillia’s hands in Avery’s. Despite having no other friends in the whole world, or any family to speak of anymore, with just their two best friends in attendance, Avery and Lillia’s wedding was truly stunning. Lillia’s dress was absolutely beautiful. Avery’s suit, which was a traditional black design with a deep red, to match Lillia’s dress, pocket square and tie, and had a gold chained pocket watch, was superb, and his deep brown hair was brushed over to the right, his curls sweeping across his forehead and down to his shoulder. Hunter and Francesca were both dressed in charcoal grey, Francesca being in a simple pencil dress, cinched in at the waist by a thin black belt, her nails short and painted light pink, her auburn hair tied back in an elegant pull through ponytail, and Hunter being dressed in a simple jacket and trousers with a white shirt, his deep brown hair slicked back down to his ears, they all complimented each other perfectly. The extravagance of Lillia’s dress, the boldness of Avery’s suit against the simple silhouette of Francesca and Hunters outfits made Lillia stand out even more.

Do Not Enter the Woods
All residents who reside in Grayvine Village, has been told just one simple rule; Do Not Enter the Woods. It was plain and concise, just as all other laws that have been around since the beginning of time, but this rule was the most important, in all ways imaginable. No matter how long you have been in Grayvine, whether you were fifth generation, first generation, anywhere in between or just passing through, no matter your age, you were told as often as possible, Do Not Enter the Woods. Every child attending the Grayvine Primary School, every teenager who was enrolled at Grayvine Secondary and every young adult who studied in Grayvine Institute Further Education Centre was reminded each day on the way out of the school gates. Each week, at every place of work, an alert was sent out to every member of staff on the books phone, whether they were at work, had a day off at home or across the globe on holiday, had parental leave, sick leave, or anything else, reminding them of this rule, it was that imperative that it was not forgotten or broken.

Beyond Her Years
Eleven-year-old Alice-May Jayne Kingston-Woods had always been an intellectually advanced, highly responsible, brilliantly polite, and extremely respectful young girl; she had been incredibly bright her whole life, even before starting her school career, she had been incredibly smart and this had only been proven more correct since starting school, she had always been the top student in her year, in all academic and creative subjects, Alice-May excelled exponentially. At every parents evening, her teachers praised Alice-May profusely, not just for her academic achievements, her involvement in extracurricular activities and charitable works, but also for her fantastic imagination, and her wonderful character and beautiful personality. Her teachers would congratulate her mother on how generally fantastic Alice-May was, in every aspect of life that they had seen her or heard about her in the news, through word of mouth from local charities and care facilities she would volunteer in and watched as she interacted with other children and members of the public- no matter their age, gender, race, religion, ability or belief, calling her an “absolutely outstanding, phenomenally well-rounded and generous member of society”. Both her teachers and her mother were incredibly proud of her and would tell her as often as they could that she would go very far in the world- whatever she chose to pursue in later life.

Up and Leave
Emelie had just quit, in the middle of the day, from her office job, after three years of service, and the downright disrespect that had just come out of her managers mouth, she knew that she had to move on, for the sake of her family, friends and her own health; Emelie had had enough of the place, treating her as if she was nothing and no one, thinking that she had nothing better to do than just work all day and all night long and completely ignoring anything that she would ask for, which would have made her job and her colleagues a lot easier and less stressful. Emelie’s manager, who was over twenty years older than her, was a complete and utter nightmare to work with, disrespectful, unforgiving and had no sense of empathy, compassion or solidarity with his staff.

Thursday 29th November, 4:45pm It was already dark with I was headed out the door, with my keys in one hand, my purse over my right shoulder and my phone in the other hand; I had my favourite pair of grey leggings on, with a purple cami-top tucked into them and completed the outfit with my favourite black and white check button up blouse, loosely draped over my arms and shoulders, all under my favourite red and blue winter coat. I could tell already that tonight was going to last forever. There was just something about the way the air was that told me, tonight was not going to be our usual night; and by god was that feeling far too right.

Elizabeth Tamara Katherina Mary-Jane Jakobson, a beautiful brown eyed young woman, who had a light dusting of freckles across her nose and cheeks, the most beautiful blonde curls you could imagine, and a brilliantly contagious laugh, was moving into her first ever home, a home that was completely and solely hers; the days of sharing the bathroom with three younger sisters, having to fight over food at the dinner table with her three younger sister, her older brother, her parents and her grandparents on her fathers’ side and her grandmother on her mothers’ side, and having to put herself and her priorities last were over. She was her own woman now, with her own space and freedom to follow her own path.

Thursday Flames
It was like every other, typical Thursday morning, the day the incident happened; my family, consisting of myself, my sister, my mother and my father, all woke up to the radio playing pop music at 7am. My father went to make breakfast as my mother, sister and I all got ourselves washed and dressed for the day ahead. As father called us to eat breakfast as a family, I had just finished pulling up my wavy auburn, waist length hair into a high ponytail. Myself and my mother, who was wearing a black knee length skirt suit and her long black hair in a tight bun at the back of her head, came down the stairs first, and sat opposite one another at the table, quickly followed by my sister, who had her stick straight auburn, shoulder length hair pushed back with an alice band, who sat next to our mother and we all began to eat and enjoy our pancakes and chocolate strawberry milkshakes that father had prepared for us, the same as every Thursday morning.

Within the Greaten Suburbs lies a Secret. Jackson Hearst and his family had just moved to the Greaten Suburb Neighbourhood, moving from a loud, busy city to the quiet, empty suburban. The Hearst family consisted of Jackson, his husband Terence, their adopted twin daughters, Naomi and Talia who are 6 years old, their adopted son, Harvey who is 3 years old, and Jackson’s biological son, Orin who is 9 months old. Through surrogacy, with a donor egg and a volunteer surrogate mother, they were able to have their own son, Jackson and Terence had decided that Jackson’s genes were better, due to a hereditary condition that Terence’s family had.
