In this dark and gloomy hell, devoid of light and life, a whipping sound could be heard. Where that whipping sound came from, there were two celestial beings who, except for their corrupted and hideous features, closely resembled what was known as humans.

The Doll
The Doll It was dark. So very dark. Too dark to see, and the silence. Oh, that terrible silence, nothing to hear. Nothing at all. There we lay, piled on top of each other, in what I could only assume was a box. The others, nothing but broken plastic and torn cloth bodies, peeling paint and matted hair. Clearly nothing special about them. No, I could see how someone could just toss them away, but me? How could they just leave me out here in this box, with these broken, useless toys? Hadn't they known there was something special about me? Something to hold on to? Something important! No. I'd been left behind too, like the others. I can't say how long we sat in that box. Days, weeks, months? It felt like an eternity, and I know all about eternities. An eternity of dark silence. That was, until the day I was found.

Reed's Literary Horror Review of "Extinction Peak" by Lucas Mangum (2020)
I'd like to point out that I never finished Jurassic Park because the meat and potatoes of that book bored me to tears. I tried multiple times, but there was just something too dry, too clinical about it. Perhaps it was the wording or the plot format, but it always felt like far too long before raptors started eating people. As I've stated that I'm a hard customer to please; being severely ADHD as well as being easily bucked from my reader's trance. If either issue arises in my readings, it's likely to stop my reading altogether.

Her Mystery Lover
He woke up and couldn’t say a word. He was in a cold, dark, concrete room. He was immediately speechless. Warm blood was trickling down his forehead and he had an intense migraine. One, single candle stood in one corner of the room, supplying only a small bit of light for him to look around and see what he had gotten himself into. A long, dark hallway led to the room that he was locked inside. Over his shoulder, he could see the door behind him. There was one small window that was boarded and nailed shut so that no sunlight would enter the room.

Catalepsy
New to the world of employment; John Linwood, not only a rookie but a young man with barely 21 years old, found himself reading the jobs advertised in the newspaper. A highly paid job with very few responsibilities was among his preferences; Rest in Peace Crematory didn't sound bad. They were requesting an operator for the crematory chamber. The lad didn't gave it a second thought; he was 6'3 tall and had a broad body, deep green eyes and tons of dark curly hair, with a hooked nose and traces of curly beard coming out of his jaw that made him look older and threatening. John called to ask for the job in the newspaper but nobody answered his call, instead he heard this message in the voicemail.

HBO is Releasing a 'Hellraiser' TV Show
The 1980s gave us some of the best horror icons of all time. People like Freddy Kreuger, Jason Voorhees, and Chucky all came out of this golden era. However, one of them that is always in the conversation for most memorable is the Cenobite known as Pinhead from the Hellraiser series. First introduced onscreen in the 1987 film Hellraiser based on the Clive Barker novella The Hellbound Heart, it has memorable characters, an interesting story, and special effects that still hold up perfectly after 33 years. The film and its first sequel Hellbound: Hellraiser II, are both considered classics of the horror genre. The law of diminishing returns hit the series hard, however, and Pinhead was forced into the world of direct to DVD films with stories taken from unrelated scripts that shoehorned Pinhead in for a few minutes, and directed by Alan Smithee, the name that directors use when they do not want to be credited for a movie, all to the tune of ten total films. While some people thought that the latest film in the franchise, 2018's Hellraiser: Judgement, was not the worst thing that happened in movie history, it was clear that, like the Alien and Terminator franchises, there had not been a truly good Hellraiser film since the second one.

Film Review: The Rental
There are genre movies out there that play on humanity’s fear of supernatural horrors like ghosts, goblins, and unknown presences. Then some play to fears we have about the everyday world around us instead. Think home intruders, killers, modern technology, and human betrayal. Directed by first-timer Dave Franco, The Rental is the latter. It stars Dan Stevens (from Apostle), Alison Brie (from Born), Sheila Vand (from A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Toby Huss (from The Invitation) and Jeremy Allen White.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1973)
I just finished watching, for what seems to be the hundredth time in my life, the 1974 grind house mega-classic, the horrific blockbuster, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a film that has achieved a legendary cult status. It is a stark, ugly, brutal film, calling to mind that other film of the era with which it shares the most infamy--Wes Craven's social shocker cum medieval morality play Last House on the Left (1973). Both films seem, by the standard of mere "entertainment," to be grueling, morbid experiences, films calculated to bring about the most dire feelings of revulsion, if not titillation, on the part of eager but undeniably guilty viewers; morally guilty for indulging such "entertainment", but, with that same sense of morbid wonder at the graphic display of violence, sadism, mutilation and morally repugnant acts offered by each respective film. Last House is the kinkier, most sexual, most "human" and rational, if utterly grotesque and macabre, of the duo. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is, by contrast, like sticking the viewer's head in the mouth of a particularly grisly and mutated feral animal, a vomitus descent from an "idyllic summer afternoon drive" (as described by opening narrator John Larroquette) into what, indeed, is the depths of an actual cinematic nightmare; albeit, one that is based upon the real-life doings of such individuals as Ed Gein and the medieval Scottish "monster brood" known to history as the "Sawney Beane" clan. (The last inspired, incidentally, Wes Craven to later go on and make The Hills Have Eyes (1977), exploring similar themes as Texas Chainsaw.)

The Dream Wood
I shot up straight and gasped for breath. I looked around and was more than a little confused by everything. I wasn't in my bed anymore, I'm in... A forest? I sat there and hoped this was a dream but once I felt the cool breeze I knew that would've been too good to be true.
