Ordinary Man
Jake was just an ordinary man. Nothing interesting ever happened to him, but that was all about to change. One morning while going for a run, just like he did every other morning, Jake got a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach. Something told him he needed to to go to the gas station at the corner of Freeman and Rallison. He tried to ignore the strange feeling but it only grew stronger. Finally, Jake changed his course and ended up going to the gas station, not sure of what he would find. As the gas station came into focus Jake noticed that something was off, he got a little closer and another strange feeling began brewing in his stomach only this time he saw a flash in his head. Fire, an explosion, people dying. Jake shook his head and looked back at the store in front of him. The smell of gas assaulted his nostrils, the gas pump was leaking. Jake’s eyes widened as he noticed a man casually walking by smoking a cigarette. The man probably had no idea that the gas pump was leaking when he threw his cigarette out. It flew right beside the leaking pump and instantly sparked a fire. Jake knee what was about to happen, he had to think fast. There was a woman with a baby who had just exited the store, Jake ran to her.

Movie Review: 'The Giant' is a Confounding Murder Mystery
The Giant is a baffling mess of arty pretension, horror imagery, and strong intentions ultimately amounting to nothing. This divisive teen horror movie has strong elements including a compelling visual style and a crime story at the heart that should help give shape to the flights of artistic fancy. Unfortunately, The Giant is so muddy, laconic and confounding that it’s difficult to surmise what the actual story of the movie is.

Sun filtered through the shades of the bedroom casting ominous shadows across the gaunt face of the woman who sat on worn state issued bed her bandaged hands clasped in her lap loosely. Rust colored hair hung still damp brushing her waif like shoulders in uneven strands. Her red rimmed eyes told the world everything it needed to know Elise had been through hell. Growls resounded through her mind drowning out the noises of the outside world around her. It was so loud, so overwhelming somewhere in her mind she knew something terrible was going on. Picking away at her like vulture tearing at a corpse but she couldn't react. The coppery taste of blood filled her mouth.

Editorial: Fear versus Horror
I am about to split a hair, making a distinction between emotional states that most people overlook. Fear and horror are not the same emotions. Fear is the visceral reaction to a physical threat, the fight or flight reaction to actual danger. Horror is something else, the reaction to an assault on the soul, not the body. Horror does not require an existential threat or even physical danger. In modern media they are portrayed as the same and I think that is done to the detriment of real art. So-called “horror movies” have little in the way of real horror because the producers of these films confuse fear and revulsion with horror. Movies that rely on violence and grotesquery to get an emotional reaction from the audience should rightfully be called “scary movies”, not Horror. To clarify the distinction between these two emotional states and the situations in a story or movie that evoke them, I offer you the following scenario:
