Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'Gretel and Hansel' (2020)
I suppose it wasn't bad. I have a lot of the same complaints about this movie as I did The VVitch (2015). Visually, this movie was stunning. Though it wasn't quite as beautiful as The VVitch the director put the same level of effort into making every scene a work of art. I think it even works a little better than The VVitch, even if the quality wasn't quite as good. This movie is more of a psychedelic horror like Argento's Suspiria (1977). It's visually stimulating and deeply unnerving, likely in an effort to get the audience to trip. It even used synth music in the same stylings as the old horror movies to assist in making every scene discomforting.

Open Curtains in a Coal Town
Dane opened one eye just wide enough to peak past his eyelashes at Monica. He could tell by her breathing that she wasn’t getting up. He took a deep breath and forced it out so that the air hissed through his mouth and nose simultaneously as he pulled his legs to the side of the bed and let them drop, easing the job of sitting. If Monica was pretending to be asleep, at least she’d know he wasn’t happy about it.

Grimoire of Adair Jones
02/06 Thank you my past self for choosing only afternoon lectures on Monday. Well, the best-case scenario would be not having any classes on Monday, but it’s better than having an 8 am lecture. After all my classes were done, I tried to get some study done in the library with my friends, but as usual, it wasn’t the most productive study session. Even when I got back home, I barely made any progress on my assignments. Well, I guess I could have gotten a lot more done if I didn’t watch Netflix after dinner. But also, I kept getting side-tracked while I was working on my assignment.

The Secret Hidden Inside
It was pill time, he wasn’t even sure what he was taking anymore. The same shows, lunch, more shows, more pills, then on to a walk around the grounds for a while, then dinner and more shows. The same thing, every day. Every once in a while, a new face in the hallway to whom he could say, “Hey, I’m Steven!” That of course being the single most exciting moment of most of his days. Steven couldn’t even remember how long he had been there anymore. The nurses were very nice, talking to him daily, helping him hobble through the walkways around the grounds. They even explained why the fence around the grounds seemed to be so daunting, as some of the other guests of the facility were not as coherent as he, so they needed to be contained. Steven was content with life, he felt old and tired, his body ached and hurt at every motion. He could not remember much of life, but he knew he had worked hard for this easy life, so he decided now, after much internal debate, that he was going to enjoy it.

This must be Heaven
“Ah, this must be Heaven,” I say, as I suddenly wake up. I do not know where those words came from. I do not remember much, just that I must be in a very nice place. I stand in a long corridor, with hundreds of people in front of me, possibly thousands, with many more behind me. I can see what lies ahead though. A grand exit of ancient Roman architecture is erected at the end of the marble pathway. Beyond that gateway lies another world. A large grassy field, with a clear sunny sky just up ahead. Although strangely, the grass and sky are grey, while the sun is a deep red. I get closer to the exit.

Paralysis
Sleep paralysis had always been a common occurrence for Winnie. It used to scare her as a child, but over time she got used to it. It was more of an inconvenience than a real issue. Sometimes she couldn't physically get up and would be late for work or school, but that did not happen enough for her to get written up or lose her job. So it was fine.
