Teacher Burnout
I chose my topic because I, like my classmates, am entering the education profession. On many social media applications, teachers and ex-teachers are bringing light to the conditions in which they work and why they are no longer staying in the teaching profession. I have second-hand experience with teachers' conditions, working in a school, and having family members in the profession. My mother is a teacher, and I have been surrounded by my mother’s friends my whole life. I now work at a high school, assisting secondary English teachers in the classrooms. You would not believe the number of times a teacher has tried to stop me from being a teacher because they have been taken advantage of and disregarded by everyone and do not wish me to take the same path and feel miserable later on in life.

Our Teachers Deserve Better
Currently, in the education system there are major staff shortages due to teacher burnout and in turn, teacher attrition. Students going into the teaching profession will often become discouraged form entering th profession because of the high turnover rates they are seeing with teachers they have interacted with in their own lives or over social media. There is a growing hashtag on the social media application called #teacherquittok, a play on words as different niches within the platform are addressed as the niche followed by “tok” instead of TikTok. With this growing hashtag students and parents alike have easier access to the opinions of teachers as they leave the classroom instead of looking to the official news sources.

It’s the End of the World As We Know It
Hilda Doolittle’s poems are works of spirituality within many different religions that crossover and work together to create a whole image of divinity in her work. Poem 35 of The Walls Do Not Fall section of the Trilogy book references the mythology of Egyptian and Greek Pantheons to create a spiritual and religious atmosphere as she questions the world and how we can change ourselves to make it better.

Magically Real Situations in Fantasy Novels
Magical realism is a longstanding tradition in Latinx writing and oral storytelling and is often confused with the fantasy genre, but it should be recognized as its literary technique. Magical realism influences modern fantasy in the young adult novel Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas by providing the young adult audience with a familiar world but tackling taboo topics in a magical way that offers more room to explore without the restrictions of the real world.

Spring Def did not get the Memo
Millay contrasts the lively imagery of Spring with the death and decay that is associated with Winter. Spring comes after Winter, bringing new life to nature as the trees begin sprouting fresh leaves and plants begin to grow back. Like Eliot, Millay presents Spring as something terrible, in the original sense of the word, covering the death that came before it.

Eve: A Pawn in a Manly Game
Eve is commonly left to take the blame for the original mortal sin that caused the fall of man from paradise and created the cruel world that is known today, according to the Christian creation story taught from the first book of Genesis within the Bible. However, Milton gives Eve a more sympathetic option and has Adam take at least partial blame while sticking to the main story provided by the Protestant denomination he attended. While Milton gives a more sympathetic part to Eve, his narrative still shows the mistreatment of women and her ultimate damnation as the scapegoat of Christian history.

The Airlock
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. Maybe I was the one who could not hear. I was isolated in this experience. I was alone. I can see the other woman screaming through the window, attempting to get my help. My attention. I put her there.

Comus: The Charming Bad Boy
The character of Comus acts as a tempter, descended from Pagan gods and figures attributed to his mischievous and luring characteristics. He is the antagonist to Stoicism and Virtue within the Masque, attempting to lead The Lady astray from her journey with her brothers to her father's castle. He also leads her astray from her moral understandings. Comus is a Masque performed at Ludlow Castle and follows a set of characters as they prevail in their Virtue despite the lure of Comus. Milton uses Greco-Roman figures and philosophies to reconcile the practical perspectives of Stoicism with his religious beliefs of Protestant Christianity, pulling them together to perform a cautionary tale of self-sufficiency and Virtue.

Violence and Humanity
Characters within Invisible Man by Ellison and Beloved by Toni Morrison, the amount of violence and challenges the characters face force them to reevaluate their humanity in the face of the White majority that constantly dehumanizes and compares the Black characters to animals. They defend their humanity by experiencing the cruelest and most horrifying bits of life offered to them and still coming out and reflecting upon it.

Petrarch was Humanist before it was Mainstream
Franceso Petrarca's favorite sonnet topics maybe are himself or his love for Laura, which translates into bringing the topic back to himself. His letters, however, mimic Cicero's humanism and rival Erasmus's humanism. Despite the narrative set out by his poems, he inspired humanist works by other authors, including Laura Cereta (King, 2). Petrarch's seemingly self-centered love fits the definition of Renaissance Humanism as "focusing on being human" (Cartwright) instead of focusing on religion.

Sor Filotea v Sor Juana
Catholic Guilt is the immense guilt felt by Catholics because of the immense weight of personal scruples placed upon each congregation member. This Catholic guilt is used to control people within the church to bend to the wills of the men in power within the church, regardless of whether or not these “issues” that the power-hungry men prey upon are discussed within the scriptures or not. Fernández, the man behind A Letter From Sor Filotea to Sor Juana Inés de La Cruz, uses congeries with increasingly hostile and damning diction to condemn his intended audience for her works. The tone becomes angrier and angrier as the letter continues while still reading civilly and polite behind the harsh metaphors.
