Tommy
This is freaking me out, just writing about it, because it brings everything back, as though I were back there again. It was the summer of 1988, I was 22 and our neighbors, Mr. And Mrs. Standish, who lived in the huge old house next door to us, went on vacation for two weeks, out of country, and being a nice (and broke) guy, I agreed to feed their pets in their absence. In their back yard they had 12 chickens and three baby goats, but in the house, there were six cats, two parakeets and a turtle named Tommy, after their beloved Australian shepherd dog that died a couple years before.

For the Love of Chaos
That wasn't the way it was meant to go. It was just supposed to be a prank. Nobody was supposed to get hurt. As CEO he probably should have gotten some help from the science department before mixing chemicals together in the ventilation shafts. He was trying to make red smoke come out of the vents to cause a slight panic. He didn't know that dry ice would cause such a problem. Some of the employees had gotten sick and those with respiratory problems were now either in the hospital or the morgue. As for Jack, the CEO responsible for the prank gone wrong, he was now in jail facing charges for criminal negligence and, as of an hour ago, involuntary manslaughter.

...never going back
This is a story about an experience I had back in the spring of 2017. For the record, I have never told anyone about what happened or what I saw, for me it was just too crazy, so frightening that I was sure that even my best friends and family wouldn’t believe me, so I have never told a soul about my experience on that day.

Munchkin Land: Michigan
Yesterday, I visited the famously haunted Franklin cemetery in southwest Michigan's Berrien County. The cemetery, which is nicknamed "Munchkin Land," dates back to the 1850's complete with a church that was built there in 1854. The location is said to be haunted by quite a few spirits, many of which are children who passed away due to the various disease outbreaks of the Victorian era.

Blind Date . Top Story - April 2021.
I met Kevin, my blind date, last week online. Both of us love haunted houses, so we're heading to a creepy old mansion near my condo for our first outing. The millionaire, who owns the house, throws a spooky shindig every month on the full moon. This year Halloween landed on a super blue moon, and we thought it would be cool to check it out. We're here said Kevin, as we pulled up to the mansion's rusty old gates. Slowly they began to open, letting us drive through.

Book Review: "The Dangers of Smoking in Bed" by Mariana Enriquez
“The Dangers of Smoking in Bed” is the second anthology I am reading by Mariana Enriquez and though I would not say it was better than “The Things We Lost in the Fire” - I will have to say that some of the stories inside were somewhat better or just as good. Now, I have read a lot of the gothic in my time and honestly, I cannot remember reading very much of the Latin American Gothic apart from some of the themes within Isabel Allende novels. Mariana Enriquez is a fresh, astounding voice of the new world of the Latin American Gothic and deserves far more recognition than she is getting at the moment. With these anthologies under her belt, she is proving to be a great and grand force of literature that will make for classics of our own times come the future.

Codeword: Merlot
I don't know how any of this is supposed to go. It has been almost twelve years and the times have changed. I found her on an app. Or more like she found me. I didn't think anyone would have private messaged me first, but she did. My profile was an open book. I didn't want for anyone to guess who I really was as a person. I even went as far as to list my seasonal allergies. The questions were standard, I didn't hold back when it came to job and personal history either. I wanted to make sure that I didn't beat around bush about who I was and what I do. I was famous enough for my readers, but not famous enough where I could walk in a restaurant and be noticed. It was a perfect blend that I was happy with.

Oranges
June 25, 1990 Why were the oranges placed so oddly? There was one on top of the dusty mantle. One sat precariously on the crook of the stairway banister. Several were balanced on the armrests of the couch, still more had made their way to the tops of pictures, mirrors.
