Lord Krishna driving prince Arjuna’s chariot. Top of chariot is Lord Anjaneyar.

In the epic Mahabharatha, Pandavas were sent to forest. Lord Krishna advised them on different activities to win the war. Bheemar was advised to pray Lord Anjaneyar. So, Bheemar went deep inside a mountain and started his penance towards Lord Hanuman.

Lord Hanuman was deeply moved by the penance so the Lord wanted to test Bheemar’s character. One fine morning, Bheemar started to collect flowers for prayer. On the way, Bheenmar found an old monkey laying down with his very huge tail. The tail was an obstacle in the way to collect flowers.

Bheemar called out to the monkey and said “oh monkey, take your tail aside. Its on my way”.

Monkey replied “Dear Sir, I am very old and tired. You please help me to put my tail aside.”

Bheemar tried with his one hand to carry the monkey’s tail. To his surprise, he could not. Again, he left his flower basket and tried with both his hands, he could not even move the tail. Then he carried his weapon and tried to poke the tail up. The tail looked more heavier than before.

Bheemar got very angry. He asked the monkey “ Oh Monkey, are you an asura (evil), if so, show me your true identity”. Suddenly monkey changed to Lord Hanuman, appeared before him. Bheemar was so happy and asked for apologies to Lord Hanuman.

Lord Hanuman hugged him with love and advised, “Oh Bheema, Strength is not in physical or mental, its in the character of a person. Loose your pride and ego, you will definitely win.”

Lord Hanuman also promised, “The chariot driven by God will win the war. I will be on the flag of the chariot serving the Lord.”

In the Epic Kurushetram war, Lord Krishna drove the chariot of Arjuna. The flag hoisted on the chariot was Lord Anjaneyar’s flag and symbol. Lord Hanuman is the lord of victory and Wisdom. Jai Sri Ram. Jai Hanuman.

Ayyan Thiruvalluvar and Vasuki Thayar

There lived a Siddhar(Saint) called Sri Konganar. He was in very deep penance for years in forest. One day, He finished his penance and opened his eyes after a very long time. First one, He saw was a crane. Because of the spiritual power of deep penance, the crane was burnt to ashes. He got very happy with his powers.

He felt very hungry. So he went to a nearby village for food. He saw a hut and went to ask for food. The hut belonged to the couple Ayyan Thiruvalluvar and Vasuki Thayar. Vasuki thayar, a very pious dutiful and responsible wife, was serving food to her husband.

When Konganar, standing outside, the hut in a loud voice asked “Mother, Kindly give me a bowl of food.”

Vasuki Thayar was very busy serving her husband as a dutiful wife, replied “Sir, Kindly wait a little, I am serving food to my husband.”

Konganar got extremely angry. When Vasuki thayar came outside, He was bursting with anger. Konganar thought that his power of penance through his eyes will burn this woman to ashes for making him wait.

Vasuki thayar came outside peacefully and gave him a bowl of food. For his surprise, nothing happened to her. Konganar was confused why the power of his penance did not burn the woman to ashes. Vasuki thayar read his mind in a moment and asked a very simple question “Do you think I am a crane, Konganava?”

Konganar was now shocked that how did a homemaker who is in a simple hut knew my penance powers burnt a crane in to ashes earlier. He asked in a polite voice “Dear Mother, May I know who you are?”

Vasuki Thayar replied “Konganare, I am Vasuki, wife of Ayyan Thiruvalluvar”.

Konganar asked “ Mother, How did you get all these powers?”

Vasuki Thayar replied “ Konganare, I am doing a fasting of taking care of my husband correctly. So I got this gift.”

Vasuki Thayar explained “Its not necessary to do penance in forest to become a Siddha Purushar (Saint). It is easily attained if we do our daily duties sincerely with love and devotion to God in complete surrender.”

Konganar understood the pureness of Vasuki Thayar. Received her blessings and ate the food given by her happily.
