Saint Alphonsus, Bishop, Doctor of the Church (1696-1787)

Saint Alphonsus Liguori, also known as the Doctor of the Church, was an Italian Roman Catholic theologian, and religious founder. He was born on September 27, 1696, in Marianella, near Naples, Italy. He came from a noble family and received a good education from his family and clergy.

Additionally, Alphonsus was a team player, a dedicated missionary, and a holy spiritual director. He was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1762 and was canonized on September 26, 1839, by Pope Gregory XVI. His feast day is celebrated on August 1st.
