Saint Alphonsus

Saint Alphonsus Liguori, also known as the Doctor of the Church, was an Italian Roman Catholic theologian, and religious founder. He was born on September 27, 1696, in Marianella, near Naples, Italy. He came from a noble family and received a good education from his family and clergy.

After pursuing a career in law, Alphonsus became a renowned lawyer at the age of 21 and achieved much success in the legal field. However, after a profound experience of betrayal and disappointment, he withdrew from his career and decided to pursue a religious life.

In 1723, Alphonsus became a Catholic priest and dedicated his life to serving God. He founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, also known as the Redemptorists, with the aim of preaching the Gospel to the poor and abandoned, especially in rural areas of southern Italy.

Saint Alphonsus is famous for his writings and religious novels, including his most famous work, "The Glories of Mary," a collection honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary. He is also the author of "Moral Theology," an important work on Catholic ethics.

Additionally, Alphonsus was a team player, a dedicated missionary, and a holy spiritual director. He was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1762 and was canonized on September 26, 1839, by Pope Gregory XVI. His feast day is celebrated on August 1st. Saint Alphonsus is known as one of the patron saints of those struggling with stress and anxiety.
