Here we go again! Here’s this week’s celebrity news roundup:

• Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Interview All the Rave

This week, Meghan Markle’s and Prince Harry’s interview was all the rave. There were also many ‘follow-up’ news stories from this interview with Oprah. Some of the highlights of the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey were the claims of racism by the couple who mentioned that a member of the royal family, not the Queen or Prince Philip, had shown concern about the colour of their unborn child’s (now Archie) skin colour. Prince Harry also alleged that his father had cut him off financially in the wake of the couple’s leaving the royal family. Meghan also alleged that there had been no protection for her and their son, and that mental health support had been withheld when she needed it.

After the interview, the Queen released a statement that said in part, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately…”

Also, Prince William spoke on the interview while on a visit to a school in East London. When asked if he had spoken to his brother, he said “No, but I will do so soon”; and when he was asked if the Royal family was racist, he answered “No, we are not a racist family”.

In more fallout from the interview, presenter Piers Morgan resigned from his role at ITV’s Good Morning Britain after receiving backlash from saying he did not believe Meghan Markle’s claims. He doubled down over his comments on the ITV show saying he was fine with quitting over his freedom of speech and “I don't believe almost anything that comes out of her (Meghan Markle’s) mouth and I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen...is enormous and frankly contemptible”.

• Matthew McConaughey Confirms Governorship Aspiration

Actor Matthew McConaughey announced that he is seriously considering running for governorship of Texas. He made this announcement during an appearance on The Balanced Voice podcast this week.

He said of his gubernatorial aspiration, “I'm looking into now, what is my leadership role because I do think I have some things to teach and share…”.

• The Weeknd Permanently Boycotting the Grammys

Singer The Weeknd stated un an interview with the New York Times that he’d “no longer allow” his label submit his music to the Grammys. The Weeknd who had won three Grammys in the past has claimed that the show lacks fairness and transparency.

The Weeknd’s beef with the Grammys began when they snubbed his album After Hours allegedly after he decided to play the Super Bowl Halftime Show instead of performing at the Grammys. This allegation had been denied by the interim President and CEO of the Academy Awards who said, “We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated. I was surprised and can empathize with what he’s feeling. His music this year was excellent”.
