Virginia Beach’s Geno Quintin has been hailed as the ‘Karate Kid’ of the social media age after exploding on TikTok almost by accident.

The 23-year-old Filipino explained, “I asked to be recorded as I attempted to wrap both my hands in a minute. I eventually got distracted and ended up telling a childhood story to the cameraman. For fun, I ended the film with a fighting stance while saying, ‘Are you ready?’”

Quintin added, “We decided to ditch the video and film another. Later on, the unedited video with no caption or music was accidentally put on TikTok. It turned out to be a happy accident. It spiked to about 300K views in two hours.”

Five days later, Quintin’s video had enjoyed millions of views, and his followers had grown from 2.7K to 119.3K. It was the beginning of a roller-coaster ride that shows no sign of slowing down.

Quintin has since established himself as a TikToker who specializes in high-energy and light-hearted posts that revolve around martial arts.

Martial arts is in his blood. The former mixed martial arts fighter hails from a fighting family. He learned his skills at his father’s knees, and Quintin and his father now teach a total defense program together at Impact Martial Arts Academy.

The MMA artist and trainer revealed, “Thanks to my mom and dad, I grew up with many blessings. One of them was learning martial arts. My goal now is to spread my love for the discipline and help others achieve their goals through the arts. I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to do that through my academy and TikTok.”

Geno Quintin’s popularity on the platform @genothefilipino does not seem like waning anytime soon. He’s the creator of nearly 700 diverse videos that have been viewed by millions and have a cross-section of engaging titles such as "Why Do Fighters Make Noises," "Different Fighter Types," "Remember What You Fight For," and "My Favorite Video Game Character Quotes."

He said, “A lot of people mistakenly believe that martial artists are serious and super-competitive types who never relax or clown about. That’s simply not true. I use TikTok to promote the light-hearted and friendly side of martial arts as well as addressing its more disciplined and philosophical element.”

Can Geno Quintin achieve his goal and do for martial arts in the 2020s what Daniel LaRusso also known as the Karate Kid did in the 1980s? Decide for yourself by visiting @genothefilipino today.
