Those who watch The Young and the Restless have a lot of questions regarding the character Chance Chancellor that date back almost one year ago. Let's take a walk down memory lane and examine the ways the CBS soap has misled viewers.

Donny Boaz

Donny Boaz

Phillip Chancellor IV returned to Genoa City in 2019 portrayed by Donny Boaz. It was announced in December of 2020 that the actor was recovering from COVID-19 and would be absent for a while. One New Year's Eve during the wedding to Abby it was Melissa Ordway's spouse who filled in for Boaz.

Justin Gaston

The Young and the Restless fans enjoyed Justin Gaston in scenes with his real life wife but were waiting for the news that Boaz would return. In February Y&R announced that Boaz had been fired and the role of Chance would not be recast. Fans were distraught and some held out hope that Boaz would return to his role but he did not. Some viewers were hoping the powers that be noticed the chemistry between Ordway and Gaston and would cast him in the role but they did not.

Real Life Couples On Screen

It had been reported that the soaps would use actor's real-time partners in love scenes due to COVID restrictions and Y&R had three they could take advantage of. In addition to Gaston and Ordway there were two other couples who were dating on and off camera. Brytni Sarpy who portrayed Elena was the girlfriend of Bryton James (Devon) and Sharon Case (Sharon Newman Rosales was dating Mark Grossman who played Adam Newman. Instead of putting these couples together, on-screen Gaston was not hired and Devon broke up with Elena. Shaddom fans were disappointed because spoilers had said Adam and Sharon would get back together but they did not. Fans began saying it was obvious that The Young and the Restless was against couples being paired on-screen.

The Baby Debaucle

The next move of the CBS soap was to give Abby a baby in a most unusual manner. Both she and Chance had been found unable to produce a child so Mariah offered to be a surrogate and Devon donated his sperm. Chance who was on a secret mission missed the entire birth and delivery and now has a baby almost 3 months old. In the middle Stitch showed up and kidnapped Marriah and viewers thought the entire storyline was bizarre.

Conner Floyd

Viewers began wondering if Donny Boaz was fired because he had COIVD but of course this cannot be substantiated. As time went on fans braced themselves to hear the news Chance was dead because Y&R said the role would not be recast. They must have changed their minds because Amelia Heinle who plays Victoria Newman leaked a photo that she later took down. It showed a sign that said welcome home to Chance. Now spoilers say Conner Floyd has been confirmed as hired by the CBS soap and a majority believe he is the new Chance Chancellor.

Fans want to know why Boaz was fired and if Floyd has been hired why did execs lie about a recast? What was the purpose of the surrogacy situation and what does this mean for Abby? Nothing has been confirmed and Floyd could quite possibly be coming on board as a different character. Viewers can only watch this play out as the rumors are flying. The rumor mill is suggesting that Chance and Abby will not be able to make it and that he might end up with Phyllis. There had been spoilers indicating that Devon and Abby might end up raising Dominic together. On various social media platforms, Y&R viewers are discussing all the above but not obtaining the answers they desire. Perhaps over time at least some of the questions might be answered.
