It’s time to get this rocking prom started!

Showing up to dance on Netflix, The Prom is a 2020 film. Upon learning that a high school girl cannot go to her own prom because she is a lesbian, a quartet of Broadway performers agree to help. Little do they know about the journey and meaningful lessons they are going to learn.

A stage version of The Prom hit Broadway last year and since it has become a popular show. The Prom is an uplifting film. It will make you smile, dance, shed a tear, and feel reinvigorated. Never let anybody crush your dreams. Stand up for your rights and love yourself.

As the quartet of famous Broadway stars - Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, and Andrew Rannells were magnificent. Their interactions are the best, including the scene where they check into a small hotel. They go through a reflective journey. Because they were lost in the attention of stardom, each is reminded of the value of life.

Streep knocks it out of the ballpark. This is a role that Streep needed for a long time. Aside from her incredible vocals, Dee Dee Allen dons an important message that we cannot lose ourselves. No matter how famous we become, never forget who you are.

Upon looking into the reviews of The Prom, I noticed that James Corden got harsh feedback for his performance. I agree that in some moments he did overact, but his performance was genuine. I laughed a lot at his comedic deliveries. It is possible to change the world. Corden is fantastic, helping a young girl achieve her dreams.

In her Netflix film debut, Jo Ellen Pellman brought out the moral of the story. Emma has been through a lot. She is happy to be who she is. Pellman explored her character very well. Her singing voice was excellent. She dons a powerful message to those who have had difficulties with being who they are.

Credits to make the message of the Prom cannot go unmentioned. Kerry Washington, Keegan-Michael Key, Ariana DeBose, Tracey Ullman, Kevin Chamberlin, Mary Kay Place, and an entire ensemble of talented dancers lit up the screen. The Prom is a story about people. We all face hidden battles.

Life is no dress rehearsal. Ryan Murphy showcased emotional moments, outstanding performances, and delivered an incredible message to audiences. It’s a story to make people think. Murphy released The Prom at a substantial time helping people see that there is still some good in the world.

In a time where the pandemic has wiped out entertainment, the message about theater is valid. Theater brings people together. It’s a time to tell a story. And it’s a way to escape from reality. The Prom made me appreciate theater all the more. I have missed acting and going to see shows.

The dance sequences are well-choreographed. Decorations for the prom sequence made me feel like I was a guest. Cinematically, The Prom is well-edited and works in some really nice graphics.

The Prom could not have said it any better. “(The world) is not great, but it is better with people who love to be who they are.” 2020 has been the most difficult year. The most important lesson we can learn is to never give up faith. Be proud of who you are. Never let anyone stop you from doing what you love.

I recommend that you watch The Prom on Netflix. It makes for a dance-hopping New Year’s Eve film for the whole family to enjoy. While you are at it, take time to reflect on the positive.
