Mean Streets and the Rule of Sound
Martin Scorsese’s “Mean Streets” was released in 1973, and it still feels like one of the best and vivid presentations of street life and culture ever filmed. It was declared a breakthrough by the film critic Pauline Kael (she called it “a triumph of personal filmmaking” ), and I still think it ranks higher as a film than “Raging Bull” or “Goodfellas” . And one of the reasons why I am still hooked on this one has to do with what I heard when I watched it.

What Survival Would Cost: Jun Maeda’s Cancer Decision
On October 19, 2026, Key released an announcement. The wording was tight and the facts were specific. Jun Maeda had felt throat discomfort since early spring. By summer, swelling and pain had worsened. After examination, he was diagnosed with pharyngeal cancer. After “repeatedly and carefully weighing his own condition and the prospects of treatment,” he decided not to pursue active treatment and to receive mainly palliative care. He wanted to “preserve his stamina and focus on creative work.” The announcement also described the work: the portions of Heaven Burns Red ’s main story through the first part of Chapter 6 that he was responsible for were complete, and the main story needed to finish Chapter 6 was written. The new music project, originally planned for long-term operation, would now focus on completing currently conceived songs as quickly as possible and releasing them one after another.

MUSK The God Player. Top Story - October 2026.
I have watched this four-hour (!) documentary but it didn't feel like it was four hours. A 10-minute intermission in the middle helped, but the documentary itself was engaging and pulling in the ways I didn't expect.

Mini-Series You Need to Watch
In my opinion, there's really nothing quite like a good mini-series. It sits at the perfect intersection between a movie and a traditional TV show, giving a story enough time to fully develop, build its characters, and create a truly fleshed-out narrative, while still being short enough to binge-watch over the course of a single weekend. You get all the depth and storytelling of a great TV series, without having to commit to multiple seasons or spend weeks working your way through it. And honestly, some of the best, most compelling, and genuinely enjoyable cinematic stories have been told in the mini-series format.

Avengers Endgame: Encore
So far in my generation, there hasn’t been a movie that has become more of a global event and cultural phenomenon than Avengers: Endgame . The only other movie I can remember coming close to that level of global hype and excitement was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which came out almost a decade earlier. When Endgame hit theatres in April 2019, it wasn’t just a regular movie or another entry in the MCU franchise. It marked the culmination of 11 years, countless films, and interconnected storylines, all coming together for one final time. If you weren’t tapped into Marvel at the time, I couldn’t even begin to put into words the sheer magnitude of the moment or its impact on the world. All I can say is this: you just had to be there.

Which Gambit was Better?
Have you ever doom-scrolled and found a video you felt needed a blog because the comment section was too short and limited? Trust me, it's happened to me a lot. I came across a video about the live-action X-Men character Gambit. The video is called “Is Channing Tatum’s Gambit really that bad? The video was made by YouTuber Cinefrenzylab; check out the channel and like their videos.

What If Iman Vellani Helped Shape Marvel’s Future? Turning Superhero Fandom Into a Global Movement for Literacy and the Arts.
Picture this: Marvel shifting its focus away from securing A-list stars for the upcoming Avengers movie, the Disney+ show slated for next year, or even from the whole notion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Didn’t Die Overnight. Here’s the 25-Year Slide.
Introduction: The Quiet End In 2025, after 25 years, the Yu-Gi-Oh! TV anime series ended. The news moved through fan circles. Outside them, it barely landed. No farewell special. No trending topic. Not much regret. An IP that once had kids arguing at recess over Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Red-Eyes Black Dragon left almost in silence.

Heart of the Beast: Movie Review
If you're a dog lover, you need to brace yourself for this movie. There are very few things that can make me break down and sob uncontrollably quite as easily as watching the deep, emotional bond between a man and his dog unfold on screen. Over the years, we've built up quite the catalogue of dog movies infamous for traumatising audiences, from Marley & Me and Old Yeller to the absolutely soul-crushing and heart-shattering Hachi: A Dog's Tale (a movie I still refuse to rewatch to this day after spending hours crying over it). We now have a new addition to this list: Heart of the Beast , the new Brad Pitt movie.

Digger: Movie Review
Few films in recent years have sparked as much online debate and discourse as Digger , for better or worse. Even though the movie has been out for less than two weeks, it already seems to be on a clear trajectory towards becoming a cult classic among movie lovers. Those who have seen it and fallen in love with it have been raving about the film, going so far as to describe it as one of the most important and extraordinary movies to have come out in recent years. On the other side of the debate, however, those who disliked the film have criticised it for being heavy-handed in its messaging, preachy in its themes and overly self-indulgent in its execution. One thing is for certain: Digger is about as polarising as a movie can get.

Animals: Movie Review
As a director, Ben Affleck is still criminally underrated. The man has given us some real gems, such as Gone Baby Gone , The Town , and Argo , the latter of which earned him two Oscars. Needless to say, any film directed by him is a no-brainer for me, as I know I'm in for something entertaining and full of twists. So, when his latest film, Animals , landed on Netflix, I knew I had to give it a watch. Compared to the rest of his filmography, Animals is probably Ben Affleck's weakest effort to date, but it's still an enjoyable watch for a weekend evening.
