She-Hulk Review: "Is This Not Real Magic?"

Jen attempts to find love while dealing with the shenanigans of a magician, among other things

We are now in the heart of the MCU series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and when we last saw our heroine, she was dealing with the Wrecking Crew, who she defeated easily. Despite this, and despite her powers, Jen receives worry from her father, Morris, and elsewhere, we see a magician known as Donny Blaze performing magic for a sparse (and bored) crowd. He gets a volunteer named Madisynn ("two N's and one Y, but it's not where you think") King, who is given white roses that Blaze turns red. The audience remains board and Madisynn is not impressed...until Blaze opens a portal. Madisynn goes through and (after entering a hellish dimension) ends up at Wong's palace, where she spoils an episode of The Sopranos that Wong was looking forward to watching.

At the office, Jen (under Nikki's urgency) starts a "Matcher" account to look for dates, but she refuses to do so as She-Hulk. Wong appears and hires Jen to serve Blaze with a cease-and-desist order, which goes about as well as one expected. Jen also manages to get a date via Matcher, which also goes about as well as one expected. Regarding court, Jen calls in Madisynn (despite Wong's annoyance), who revealed that she made some sort of deal with a demon before ending up with "Wongers"; apparently she considers Wong her BFF. The process of the cease-and-desist goes through, but Blaze is allowed to continue his magic until it's official, and as for Madisynn, she spoils yet another Sopranos episode for Wong.

After receiving nothing on Matcher, Jen finally decides to post an account for She-Hulk, and she gets results. After two dates don't go as she wanted, she meets a good match in the form of Arthur, a pediatric oncologist who only wanted to hear about She-Hulk. Sure enough, they return to Jen's place, but while all is well there, the same can't be said regarding Blaze's act, as his latest performance resulted in the release of several hellish demons--as well as Jen's date being interrupted by Wong (who was watching This is Us) appearing to her regarding the demons. After they are all eliminated, Blaze finally signs the cease-and-desist order, and Jen returns with Arthur.

After they consummated, Arthur sees Jen in her normal form, and suddenly leaves. It gets worse for Jen, as she is later visited by a process server, who reveals that Jen is being sued. Who is suing Jen? None other than Titania, who claimed that she trademarked the "She-Hulk" name before Jen became famous. So it definitely looks like we'll be seeing Titania in the next episode.

Patty Guggenheim as Madisynn King

As for Madisynn, the mid-credits scene showed her watching This is Us with Wong, while asking Wong about various drinks he had sampled. So it looks like the two really are BFFs. Madisynn King was definitely the episode stealer, and she was played hilariously by Patty Guggenheim. The character was so silly and immensely funny; the way she frazzled and annoyed Wong had this viewer cracking up laughing. Even funnier was the final moments--Madisynn and Wong watching This is Us together. Golden! Guggenheim is an actress, writer, and comedian, and she's appeared in episodes of 2 Broke Girls, The Middle, and Modern Family--among other shows.

Episode 4, "Is This Not Real Magic?," was released on Disney+ on September 8, 2022, and this was a very amazing episode. Other than the Madisynn/"Wongers" interactions, we see Jen's quest for a love life take place, and it's not an easy quest, nor should it be. And, of course, Titania is back in the picture. The heart of this nine-episode series will be quite interesting.
