Secret Invasion

Ep. 3

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished 12 months ago 3 min read

We’ve established thus far that I am less than impressed with the Secret Invasion series so far. Which is mostly disappointing because I feel up to this point the Disney+ series have been more good then bad. But the real problem with this show is the entire lack of emotional connection. There is no heart, no reason for the audience to care about any of these characters. That is the show's biggest problem so far, the little ones however are a big reason why it's been difficult to power through the show. It's slow, the pacing is really poor, and they have opted to make it visually very dark which was a poor decision. Normally 2 bad episodes won’t kill a show IF it starts getting drastically better after the 3rd, however it will only be a 6 episode series so we are officially halfway through. Will it get better? Or is this officially the worst Disney+ MCU show?

Super Skrulls? Seriously? Dumbassery. Not only wildly derivative, but just a poor writing decision from a narrative standpoint. There were approximately 1000 other options; space technology, advanced communications, strategic brilliance because they've already been through a war and they’ve literally been laying low and studying humans for 20 years. Anything practical would have been not only easy for the audience to believe but it would have been less straight stupid.

So he’s not only been off planet for years but he's been away from his wife? And just didn’t say anything about it? And we are supposed to care about him? I am so sorry but as of right this moment the MCU has given me no reason for me to give a shit about Fury. He’s a bad partner, he’s a bad leader, he’s a bad friend and we as the audience have no reason to give a shit about him or what he does. He’s also been irrelevant to the MCU for so long that it quite literally feels like nothing about this show matters. I’m willing to bet just about anything that this show will leave absolutely no lasting mark on the MCU whatsoever.

G’iah also seems to have no agency whatsoever, she is trapped between her father and the rebels. In a show that already fridged Maria Hill to give our only other relevant female character no will or power of her own is definitely a choice only dumbass men would make. Hey MCU having a single woman on the writing team for a single episode doesn't make your trash less sexist. Bryan Tucker and Kyle Bradstreet need to get it together, also you have the most basic sexist bullshit names ever. Stop fucking over women characters Kyle.

Talos’ monologue to Fury about how his career only exists because of the Skrulls is great because it more clearly cements how much Fury sucks. He is a capable individual but as an agent he is kind of useless. He is almost an adequate leader for most of the time we’ve seen him in the MCU but he still has tons of help and he doesn’t actually do much. Which supports Talos’ idea that Fury would be nowhere without the Skrulls.

Fury claims no one calls him Nick and that's how he knew Talos was in trouble but literally so many people have called him Nick, what a stupid ass thing to say. I’m not convinced any of the MCU’s newer screenwriters understand or even know that they are part of the MCU…as in Universe…as in connected with other projects. I understand Fiege and the other execs have started hiring writers that have no interest in comics but that is so incredibly and profoundly stupid. I’m not sure where the MCU thinks their fanbase is coming from but it's still mostly comic book fans, pissing us off is in fact not a great plan.

And we fridged the second woman in 3 episodes, Emilia Clark’s character is no more than a plot device. Look Black Widow was sexualized for a decade and her writing still isn’t as sexist as this crap. I feel like this show set the MCU and humanity back about 20 years. Am I even still allowed to vote?

Anyway episode 3 brought more garbage, sexism and poor storytelling. Truly an awful show written by men who have no business writing anything for the MCU. Fiege needs to do better.
