Among them, Darth Vader, formerly known as Anakin Skywalker, stands out as a mighty Force-sensitive being. His precise lightsaber techniques and ability to predict his opponents' moves have brought him renown. Vader's prowess has allowed him to defeat skilled adversaries, such as Jedi, making him one of the most potent Sith in history.

However, some argue that his relentless pursuit of power and unwillingness have stifled Vader's full potential as the "chosen one". While his hatred and suffering fueled his rise as a Sith, another iconic Sith from the "Legends" era may be more deserving of that title.

In this analysis, we will delve into the comparison between Darth Vader and Revan, examining their respective strengths and weaknesses as powerful Sith Lords.

Who’s Darth Revan?

In a period approximately 4,000 years before "Rogue One" and "A New Hope," Revan, was a Jedi Knight in the Old Republic. As a young man, he studied and trained under several Jedi Masters, and his growing discontent marked his tenure in the Jedi Order with the Order's perceived inaction during the ongoing Mandalorian Wars. This led him to defy the Jedi Council's orders and lead the Revanchist movement, adopting the name "Revan." After joining the Republic's military as Supreme Commander, he adopted the mask of a fallen Mandalorian warrior to honor her sacrifice.

After the war, Revan's exposure to an ancient Sith artifact corrupted him and his companion Malak. They declared themselves Sith Lords and established a new Sith Empire against the Republic. However, Malak betrayed Revan, leaving him for dead. When the Jedi found him, they used amnesia to erase his memories of his Sith past, hoping to stop Malak. This led to a redemptive journey where Revan retraced his steps, reconnected with the Force, and formed a romantic relationship with Jedi Bastila Shan, who shared a connection to his dark past.

Despite his redemption, Revan continued to struggle with the dark side, leading him on a new journey to confront the True Sith. Although his story is not yet part of the official "Star Wars" canon, Revan's complexity and exploration of the seductive nature of power and the blurred lines between light and dark have made him a beloved character in the Legends canon. His impact is clear in games and books, and fans eagerly expect a canonical appearance in future media, similar to including Grand Admiral Thrawn in "Star Wars: Rebels" and the "Ahsoka" series.

How does Revan Measure Up To Darth Vader As The Most Powerful Sith In “Star Wars” History?

Initially, while both Darth Vader and Darth Maul are undeniably formidable Sith Lords, a direct comparison reveals distinct strengths and weaknesses. So, let's analyze these character traits and their relative importance.

Comparison of Lightsaber Combat Skills

  • Revan: Known as a skilled strategist and duelist, Revan's unique combat style blends Jedi and Sith techniques, setting him apart in battle.
  • Darth Vader: A powerful fighter, Vader relies on his strength, brute force, and connection to the Force to overcome opponents with relentless aggression.

Assessment of Force Abilities

  • Revan: Demonstrating exceptional versatility, Revan's mastery extends to telekinesis, mental manipulation, Force lightning, and Force drain, showcasing his wide range of Force abilities.
  • Darth Vader: While Vader possesses telekinetic skills and enhances his lightsaber combat with the Force, his command over other Force powers is limited compared to Revan.

Evaluation of Experience

  • Revan: Revan's extensive experience as a Jedi and Sith Lord has bestowed upon him a vast array of abilities and skills, providing him with unparalleled versatility.
  • Darth Vader: With over two decades spent as a Sith Lord, Vader has honed his skills through the relentless pursuit of Jedi and leadership of the Empire's military forces.

Analysis of Mentality

  • Revan: Revan's tactical and calculating approach involves a strategic combination of power and manipulation to achieve his objectives.
  • Darth Vader: Driven primarily by rage and fear stemming from his tragic past, Vader's emotions heavily influence his actions and decision-making.

What If The Two Were To Battle It All Out?

  • Lightsaber Duel: As a close fight, Revan’s versatility would allow him to have an edge, but Vader’s raw force usage should not be underestimated at the slightest.
  • Force Abilities: Revan’s wider range in both Jedi and Sith abilities has the potential to overthrow Vader in a single fight.
  • Overall: Revan’s experience with both Jedi and Sith abilities, tactical mind and Force versatility would truly make him a strong contender against Lord Vader. However, the former Anakin Skywalker’s immense power has the upper hand to overpower Revan if things were to get brutal on both sides.

If I had to pick a victor for the match between Revan and Vader, I would choose Revan without hesitation. His unique combination of Jedi and Sith abilities grants him a significant advantage over Vader, who while formidable, is more prone to emotional outbursts. Revan's strategic approach and possession of a Sith artifact that enhances his connection to the dark side beyond Vader's capabilities gives him a decisive edge. Therefore, I firmly believe that Revan would emerge victorious in a confrontation with Vader.
