The division of labor

In today's society, we can say that the division of labor has become commonplace.

Although not everyone is clear why to use the division of labor to participate in social production, but it is true that everyone in their own industry to contribute their own strength.

Division of labor increases productivity

We consciously or unconsciously choose the mode of division of labor in production, which shows that this mode of cooperation can bring us benefits. Otherwise, this mode would be eliminated by society long ago.

So we're going to look at how the division of labor actually benefits our production.

Save time lost in switching from one type of work to another.

The savings in time are easy to imagine. We can't move very quickly from one job to another, in a different location, with a different tool. Even in the same job, we usually hang out for a while as we move from one business to another.

But the benefits of saving that time are not so easy to imagine. When we start a new business, what percentage of us focus on our work from the very beginning? In the beginning we were often absent-minded, dilly-dallying and not working seriously. If this shift is frequent, such as changing jobs and tools every 30 minutes, you will gradually find yourself in the habit of being careless and unable to concentrate even in stressful situations. These habits greatly reduce the amount of work we can accomplish.

So the division of labor not only saves the time lost by switching jobs, but also the benefits of saving these hours cannot be ignored.

An increase in the proficiency of workers

There is no doubt that continuing to do the same job increases a worker's skill, and that increased proficiency increases the number of jobs he can perform.

At the same time, the division of labor, by reducing each man's business to some simple operation, and making it his sole occupation for the rest of his life, makes the worker much more skilled.

Conducive to the invention of machines, convenient and simplified labor

Because of the division of labor, it is natural for each man to devote all his attention to his own occupation. Therefore, the man who is engaged in every specific task will soon find the easier and more rapid way to finish his own specific task.

Most of the machines used in labor were originally invented by ordinary workers to facilitate and simplify the tasks they performed.

With the invention and use of a large number of machines, the manufacture of machines has become a specialized industry, so that the manufacture of machines and the use of machines have further done the division of labor.

An increase in productivity can make societies generally richer

Because of the division of labor, the output of all the different trades multiplies, and in a very well governed society there is a great deal of surplus. The product of each worker's own Labour, in addition to supplying his own needs, may be sold in large quantities; Other workers, too, are able to exchange large quantities of their own products for large quantities of other people's products. He made provisions for their needs, and they made equally abundant provisions for his, so that all the different classes of society became generally rich.

The impact of market scope on the division of labor

Since the products of labor are to be exchanged with the products of others, the degree of division of labor is naturally limited by the size of the market.

If the market were not large enough to exchange all the product of one's labor for the product of another's labor that one needs, no one would devote himself to the production of this life.

Housekeeping, for example, is a common occupation in the big cities, but it is difficult to exist in the villages where the market is not enough to guarantee his daily work.

Convenient transportation expanded the scope of the market

Convenient transportation has opened up a wider market for all walks of life.

Among them, water transport has the lowest cost compared with land transport and air transport, so it can provide a broader market. This is why coastal cities, and those along navigable rivers, are more thoroughly divided and economically developed than inland cities.

Inland cities take longer to find suitable markets for their goods and have to consider higher transport costs compared to water transport.
