Find the Perfect Show with Nostalgia

The wonders that were found in the wardrobe must now be hard to replace. From my sources I see many grownups look far and wide to replace what was once childhood wonder. Now their thoughts brimming with the horror seen on nightly news, or lived during some great sorrow. Most give up the idea that there will ever again be the feeling of joy brought by watching Harry Potter get his first letter to Hogwarts. As someone who loves magic and the wonders of "myth" it's obvious that many stopped looking for elves after the last lord of the rings movie. Yes, by adulthood most people seem to of given up watching movies that come from their own hearts interest. Eventually just giving in to watching whatever show on Tv or in theater that is most highly recommended by critics. No part of me is willing to say that this is the wrong way to find what show will steal your time but I think there might be a better way.

Nostalgia drives much of our life (something you may or may not of picked up on by now) As a kid all you want to do is get into that rated R movie, get that job because it will give you "freedom". So sometimes you might not even notice the day that you go from kid to adult but when it happens everything changes. You stop trying to do things for wonder or excitement and start looking to recapture that feeling you had the first time watching Star Wars or Star Trek. Because of this I am a strong believer, that just as to locate your life's purpose you might need to look back at what you enjoyed as a kid. It is easy to figure out a movie or show to recommend to someone if you just take the time to figure out what or where they spent time in the younger years of their life.

Me personally I love many things today just as I did then. You should be able to guess some of my favorite movies as a kiddo just by what you have read so far though. Maybe not, so I will go a head and say, Lord of the rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, X-Men, Batman, truly I could write a very long list but that's not the point of this article. Once someone has told you how they chose to spend there Sunday mornings or Saturday nights as a child you should be able to get a glimpse at what really draws in their mind and or heart. Then think of a movie or Tv show that would relate. For me any time someone says they love lord of the rings or Harry Potter. My first recommendation (If they haven't seen it) is Magicians. The show is like if Harry Potter, Narnia & Lord of the rings had a baby, with a sprinkle of star wars. There are many different mythical creatures, a school set up like a college where people go to refine their magical talents. Gods that have some what human characteristics. Tones of quirky jokes with a group of friends (or at least they are friends most of the time). Deep plot lines (like that of the space opera of star wars), other worlds. Plus, even the saving of the world every now and then. All and all I have yet to find a person who loved the prior mentioned movies and didn't love this Netflix show. No part of me wonders why either, it really brings back the feelings of watching Harry Potter as a kid. Adding some much needed adult humor, it pulls at the nostalgia of childhood and easily believing in magic. Obviously you don't to just recommend a off brand copy of a show. Nor will the feelings in the new show be exactly the same as the ones used to make the recommendation. It is however great ground work for helping someone else (or even yourself) find a good show to spend time on and we all know (or I hope you do) that time is the most valuable substance in the universe.
