My Review of "Sex Education: Season 2"

The second season to a spectacular first. Did it live up to the first season?

Last year's season one of Sex Education was a bit of a surprise for me. I didn't hear about it until it came out. My girlfriend and I saw the description for it and thought why not. It turned out to be a great decision because we were enamored by the characters. All of the actors are back reprising their roles and they are all retain their initial likability from last season. In a way, some of the characters are even more liked this season because we know the trials and tribulations they dealt with in season 1.

Season one ended off with a will they or won't they cliffhanger with Maeve and Otis. Otis decided to go with his new girlfriend Ola but we know something's going to happen for season 2 because that's not how these teen drama's work.

One of the most interesting stories was actually Otis' friend Eric. He had come out to his family and his high school bully Adam turned out to be gay or bi-curious. Even crazier is that Adam and Eric had a sexual encounter just before Adam was sent off to the military academy. That was a heck of a cliffhanger that we saw coming but made us interested in season 2.

Even Otis' mom Jean had a story that got me interested. She's an independent woman that is averse to relationships and yet she had found a man that she ended up having feelings for. The craziest thing was that it turned out to be Otis' girlfriend's father Jakob. Definitely a very awkward dynamic in the household.

This season starts off just as the last season ended. There doesn't seem to be too much time that elapsed from the last episode of season 1. There are new characters that get greater story arcs. Like Jackson, the popular swimmer, he has one of the more interesting stories as he has to deal with pressure placed on him by his parents and the fact that his parents are constantly fighting. They really put an innovative twist to the story because both of his parents are lesbians. It places a very cool dynamic to the situation that you don't normally see in other TV shows.

New characters are introduced as well. We have Maeve's mom that makes an introduction to the series. She's also a dynamic character as she has so many flaws but has the right intentions. You can see Maeve fight her moral compass to think of the right thing to do.

Another character that I hope they continue to use is Viv, an ambitious student trying to make it to a great university. She lacks in the social department because of all the extra curricular activities she's trying to accomplish to make it to a nice school. They obviously crack her in this season but she is a character that I'd like to see more of in the next season.

I found that this season had way more content than last season as season 1 was basically an introduction to the main characters. There's a little introduction to the new characters to this new season as well but the stories were flying here and there in this season. We're aware of all of the main character's quirks and manners so we understand how they will deal in tight situations. Boy do they ever place some of these characters into some crazy situations.

There's absolutely no school in real life that is this crazy but that's what we're here for, the escape. There's plenty of big moments this season that will have you cheering for our characters. I liked that a lot of these moments were actually for some of the minor characters. You never forget these characters in the background because the writers do a great job in keeping them in the foreground.

Overall, this was a really fast paced season. I loved it though. I'm hoping the next season will be just as crazy and wild. There's so much to love and never a dull moment. Each of the characters of the show have interesting situations that they have to deal with and I was glued to the TV set watching them. I will have to give this season a 9 out of 10. It's a very easy binge watch. You won't even realize that you sat there watching the whole season in one sitting.
