My Review of "Men in Black: International"

A surprisingly okay movie that adds to the Men in Black universe.

Men in Black: International came out back in 2019. It seems as though this franchise will never die. They have a new one when it gets close to 10 years from the previous one. This time we don't have our main character but we still have the main premise and same universe.

It starts out with two men in black agents in France. They're off to save the universe as always but this time at the top of the Eiffel tower. Not much is known as to what happens but it eventually gets unraveled later on in the movie. All we know is that the two agents H and high T are heroes because of their actions.

Next thing you know we're going to the past. Here we meet a young agent M. She's a little girl minding her own business when there's a bit of a kerfuffle at her house. Not much is known about what happened but she encounters an extra terrestrial in her bedroom.

The little thing is obviously trying to escape so she helps it out. After that she becomes obsessed with knowing the mysteries of the universe. She works her butt off in order to become a secret men in black agent. Since nobody knows what she's talking about she's considered a little crazy.

Despite the denial of this secret organization M is adamant in finding them and joining their ranks. She eventually finds them. Seeing as she was able to infiltrate the organization they have to hire her.

She's then moved to London in order to help out the men in black international organization. There she meets up with H and they're put on a weird escort duty of a famous intergalactic royal. Unfortunately a bunch of bad things happen and the royal passes away.

It's up to them to figure out why this royal died and how to thwart the bad guy's intentions. Standard popcorn movie plotlines so nothing terribly complicated. It's not exactly super simplified either. They added an element of mystery with a possible mole in the men in black organization.

I found that this aspect of the movie added to the intrigue of the movie. All the little side stories were okay too but they never dive into fun are they or aren't they alien situations that they did in the past. You can say that it's played out by now and I guess you're right but I was looking for at least one.

Everything in this movie for the most part is black or white. Things are good or bad up until closer to the end of the movie. There were certain moments of big potential but they never capitalize on them for the fact that they packed a lot of stuff in this movie.

I kind of wished they focused more on the mole and made it into more of a mystery. Though the pacing wasn't bad for this movie. For the most part it was entertaining throughout. This could mostly be because of the charisma of all of the cast involved.

The special effects have advanced a bit but not by the incredible margin between the second and the third movie. Here they're willing to spend more time on CGI'ed objects without the CGI things looking too out of place. yeah they do still look out of place because of the cartoonish looks to them but they blended in a bit better because of the new technology.

Overall, I still had a lot of fun despite the fact that the whole cast except for Agent O has changed up. It's a total spin off movie of its own that still follows the same lore as the original Men in Black. I have to give this movie a 6.5 out of 10. It was a fun one time ride but I don't think I'd be revisiting this one anytime soon.
