My Review of "Lower Decks: Season 3"

This show doesn't seem to be losing steam anytime soon.

Lower Decks: Season 3 has just recently wrapped up and I have to say the same thing as last year. This series needs more episodes per season. I mean 10 half hour episodes a season is very short. You also have to pack a lot into one season when you have such a short period of time to play with. That means you can't really have any wasted episodes.

The season starts off with Mariner and her buddies trying to clean up her mom's name. It's funny because everything works out in the end but I love that they added new elements into each of the main characters in this episode. They do that a lot in this season in general.

We already know the characteristic traits of our main characters, Boimler, Rutherford, Mariner and Tendi are. This season goes to the next level with their weird tendencies. We learn more about them and their stories are pretty hilarious.

That first episode shows how Boimler has been a bit of a lady killer for all these years and he's been totally oblivious to it. He's such a one track mind that he doesn't understand the opportunities that are right in front of him. This is a bit of a running gag later on in the season and I thought it was hilarious.

Surprisingly, we had a deeper dive into Rutherford where we start to learn more about how he became a cyborg. There's a bit of an ongoing mystery throughout this season that gets revealed in each episode. That was a bit of a nice twist. I liked the episode where he had to face his former self and see how he's grown as a person.

Tendi had an episode where we explore her culture and how she's been kind of avoiding it. She's embarrassed of where she's from but ultimately embraces it later on in one of the episodes.

Mariner had a bigger spotlight where we dive into her career aspirations. We all know that she loves her family and friends but there are certain things inside her that say that there might be something else for her. Throughout the season there are hints that she may be leaving the crew and possibly even the ship. Much of the season is based on her and her antics on the ship.

The other characters of the ship take a huge backseat compared to the previous season. I guess they did get a lot of light in season 2 so it was nice to see that the main cast finally got to shine in their own show.

There are still tons of laughs but there are also a lot of call backs as well. I didn't catch all the call backs but I vaguely remember most of them. Having such a short season and short episodes it's actually kind of recall what they're talking about sometimes.

A new character has been added to the mix that I can see potentially making guest appearances in future episodes as well. She'll probably be a big part of the next season but it's too early to tell.

Overall, I really liked this season. I thought it was full of laughs and if you've been keeping up with the series this far you're going to be in for a riot. This show is really coming into its own and I'm here for ever episode along the way. That's why I have to give this season an 8 out of 10. I didn't have any major complaints besides the call back jokes. Even still the series is so short its easy to binge it all over again just so I can recall everything.
